So we jettisoned a show-me-the-unreasonably-massive-amount-of-money-because-I-had-one-good-year-so-I'm-the-greatest-thing-in-mankind-since-sliced-bread-otherwise-I'm-going-to-hold-out left tackle, and then trade for another show-me-the-unreasonably-massive-amount-of-money-because-I-had-one-good-year-so-I'm-the-greatest-thing-in-mankind-since-sliced-bread-otherwise-I'm-going-to-hold-out left tackle?

Is that how this works?

I don't see what other people are seeing. Gaither has some negatives, primarily a reportedly poor work ethic and some injuries.

However, where are people getting that he'll be demanding 10-11 million per year if he's traded? People seem to be assuming this.

I just can't see what evidence you're basing any of the "show-me-the-unreasonably-massive-amount-of-money-because-I-had-one-good-year-so-I'm-the-greatest-thing-in-mankind-since-sliced-bread-otherwise-I'm-going-to-hold-out left tackle" assumptions.

Put Cornell Green in place of Wang, and I think that would be pretty accurate.

There is no link...or talk of it outside of message boards. It is speculation from a fan base that was jilted by an over-achieving, greedy, **** head LT in the recent past, that doesn't want to "rebuild," again, in two years.

This thing is turning into a monster...there is no real reports about what Baltimore might accept in return, nor anything concrete from Gaither. The reality of a cheap LT is about as likely as Edwards spawning testicles. A good LT, which some think is the corner stone of an entire team, is not a cheap commodity. There are 31 other reasons they are not going to sign below the money. So, yes, if we get Gaither, and wish to retain him, it is going to take a big check to do so.

We could trade let him play his last year, then tag him...that will give him a big raise without our tying our boat to him for 5-6 years. It also lets us get a 2 year sample size of his work ethic and potential. If not all we lose is Roscoe and a 10th round pick, right?

BILLS ARE CLOSE TO DEAL WITH BALTIMORE FOR JARED GAITHER

Written by JOE LOGAN on 5/8/2010 11:30 AM

The Bills Beat has learned that the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens have agreed in principal to a deal that would send Jared Gaither to the Buffalo Bills for a second round draft choice in the 2011 NFL draft.
Gaither is probably aware that his stock will lower drastically if he plays out the final year of his contract at right tackle instead of the left side where has been a starter for the past two seasons.
Buffalo has a gaping hole at left tackle and Gaither would most likely get a huge contract and become the immediate starter at that position. Our Baltimore source has said that Gaither's agent has told him to stay off the field while he negotiates a contract extension. Apparently Gaither is at the Ravens facility getting treatment today but not on the field.
The Bills currently only have rookie Ed Wang and Demetrius Bell vying for left tackle, both of whom would have trouble protecting whomever starts at QB for Buffalo this year.
The Ravens are apparently comfortable that they can replace Jared Gaither at the right tackle position after former first round pick Michael Oher officially was named the Ravens right tackle on Friday.
We will keep you up to date on the latest for this and other stories as we cover the Bills mini-camp this weekend.

Why is Whitner thrown in to every trade possibility? Whitner is going to be good in this new defense, especially next to a more seasoned Byrd.

Thats all I heard so far about it.
I do know 100%% sure that GAITHER did not come to Baltimore mini camp this AM....
ODDS are he is being moved......

It still amazes me how our FO has not won a single game yet and they are basically referred to as the second comming of christ.

Youboty and a 2nd would be fine with me. Youboty and a 3rd? Color me ecstatic. Gaither has his blemishes, but he is definitely worth a gamble like this.

If we pull this deal off, we will once again be a good QB away from competitive... just like we were in 2008.

They cant win the games. They can only put the product on the field. The players and coaches get the WINS. And so far this front office seems to not have their collective heads up their asses!! Be happy for once Mr. Negative Jr.

Good idea (http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/13523/gaither-could-be-headed-to-buffalo)

"The Bills have been aggressively pursuing Gaither behind the scenes to shore up one of the NFL's worst offensive lines. The Bills were forced to trade two-time Pro Bowl tackle Jason Peters (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=6012) last year and declined to bring in anybody to replace him, choosing instead to give 2008 seventh-round pick Demetrius Bell (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=11453) a try. The gamble failed miserably. Bell was among the league leaders in penalties before a knee injury ended his season at eight games. If the Bills don't bring in any help, Bell likely would return to the role with competition from fifth-round draft choice Ed Wang (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=13480)."

[URL="http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/features/rumors#4804"]We wrote earlier (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/features/rumors#4804) about the possibility that the Buffalo Bills (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=buf) will pursue a trade with the Baltimore Ravens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=bal) that would land them left tackle Jared Gaither (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=10705), who has potentially become expendable after being moved to the right in order to allow Michael Oher (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=12621) to protect Joe Flacco (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=11252)'s blind side at left tackle.
But Allen Wilson of the Buffalo News (http://www.buffalonews.com/2010/05/08/1043954/bills-notebook-gaither-rumored.html) posits that perhaps Jammal Brown (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=8428) of the New Orleans Saints (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nor) would be a better target for the Bills. Brown's future as the Saints' left tackle is in jeopardy following the drafting of USC's Charles Brown (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=13263) in the second round. Glenn Guilbeau of the Louisiana Gannett News (http://www.thetowntalk.com/article/20100507/SPORTS/5070334) reports that the Saints brass has acknowledged that trade talks involving Brown have taken place. Brown was a first-round selection in the 2005 draft, but missed all of last season's Super Bowl run due to injury after starting at left tackle the previous three seasons.

Ravens OT Jared Gaither was not in attendance at Ravens minicamp practice Saturday morning.
The team claims he was in the training room, but the Baltimore Sun is reporting that Gaither had no known injuries (http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/blog/2010/05/jared_gaither_isnt_on_field_as_second_day_of_minicamp_begins.html) that he was dealing with and practiced fully on Friday.
UPDATE: I’m hearing that Gaither’s foot might be sore and that’s what he was getting treatment on in the Ravens training room.
There’s been widespread speculation that Gaither will be moved to another team soon via trade. Buffalo is one of the team’s reportedly interested (http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/05/07/report-bills-want-gaither/) in the 24-year old left tackle.

A team that's making these moves does not appear to be a team that is just gutting itself to piss the fan base off just they can move. I love nix's attitude. I'm really hopeful and optimistic for the first time in awhile.

To get back to the op, let's be a little bit real here....

Peters deserved to get paid, and the team had their part in screwing him over. I don't really blame him for wanting to be moved.

Everybody *****es about how much money is thrown at young players before they even get a chance to prove whether or not they can play at the NFL level, but when somebody comes along that has actually earned his payday he gets thrown under the bus.

He was an undrafted free agent, signed for cheap.
He switched to o-line, and right tackle, successfully, for cheap.
He switched to left tackle, at the very least the second most important position on the offensive side of the ball, successfully, for cheap.

He should have paid accordingly, and I don't begrudge him one thin dime that he ever makes playing this game, because he's worked for it, and that can't be said for many, many players.

Didn't we offer Peters something like $9.5m per year?
