Aaron Wilson of Ravens Insider reports that the Bills worked out Kyle Eckel (fullback) today. The Bills really do hate issuing press releases to the media.

ANyway, Eckel has played for the Patriots (twice), Miami, Philly and New Orleans during his career. He's 28.

He may have grown up, but he was a bad kid in college.. Got expelled from Navy because of alleged alcohol incidents, among other no-no's (including a female encounter)

Excellent article from Boston.com about some of Eckel's trangressions while in college.

Sounds like he's grown up though.

If it means getting McIntyre off this team I find it exciting.

If he can actually open a hole unlike McIntyre I'm all for him.

All McIntyre could open was his fly. Allegedly.

yeah, the article definitely makes it sound a little more serious than that.

But sounds like he's been around the league for a few years without any incidents, so maybe he grew up.

My bigger concern is that he's a FB. In the past, the Bills have wasted roster spots on FB's they never used.

yeah by all accounts it seems he's done some real growing up.

I think with Gailey they are going to use a fullback more than Jauron did.

My brother-in-law actually knew him really well, he lived with several of the football players at Navy when he was at Annapolis. Said he was basically a bad person haha, really didnt like him much at all. However, that was several years ago and hopefully he has grown up by now.

Did anyone read the friggin' article? He was NOT expelled from the Naval Academy. He graduated in 2005, but WAS later expelled from naval service before he had fulfilled his entire commitment and had to pay back some of his education costs.

We really should get a fact or two correct on here once in a while.

And like he said in the article the "trouble with a girl" was akin to being blamed for a car accident when you just drove by it.

And the second incident was more murky; however, if anything these incidents show to me if he's going to be signed, they have to watch him around alcohol.

I doubt he threatens McIntyre. He was a halfback at Navy (and played there in NE) and is really more of a big RB than a true FB. He is a RB/FB tweener who is a better fit as a FB in a West Coast-type scheme or as a single-RB with no FB. Perhaps it is the latter the Bills see him, since they will be using spread sets. He isn't a hammer-type lead blocker as a FB.

If the Bills do sign him I doubt he makes the team.

That actually makes him a good fit for Buffalo. They never actually use a FB on offense and their criteria for the position seems to be "guy who can play RB in an emergency situation and contribute on ST in the meantime"
