He'd make the team better, but at what cost? San Diego is looking for a high pick for him. Not sure I want to even spend a 2nd rounder on someone who has 4 sacks in the last two years.

DBAG

we already have maybin celebrating after everyplay idk if we can handle merriman

id do it for a 4th or less maybe conditional if he hits 10 sacks or if he is suspended it drops in value

if we were playing madden, i would say bring him in.....but this is reality. the cost wouldn't be worth it.

Lynch and Whitner for Merriman, I would do. I think anyone would. But that's not realistic.

As opposed to saving draft picks for non-risky rookies?

you mean the stable of DE has-beens and never-was players that we are attempting to convert to OLB's? Please.

I can buy the argument that Merriman's not worth the cost. I can buy the argument that with the 'roids and the injuries, it's too risky. I can't buy the "what we have now is good enough" argument. There is not a single proven 3-4 OLB on our roster right now.

trade lynch for him...moron for a moron...at least we could use their moron more efficiently

Oh man, I agree with everyone on here.

Why would we want a proven playmaker on defense when we already have Chris Kelsay on the roster.

Have you seen Merriman play the last couple years? He hasnt even been the 3rd best LB in San Diego. Not saying I wouldnt want him but if they're asking for anything more than say a 4th rounder, I think its not worth it.

And yet, he'd be a drastic improvement over so many players on the Bills roster.

For what it's worth, I'm not saying give up a high pick at all, just saying that it would be worth looking into.

You know, for years I've been opposed to signing other teams' rejects because there is usually a damn good reason why those players were rejected. And there have been plenty of solid examples of that on the Bills over the last few years.

But we really have stooped so low that other teams' rejects can actually make us better.

you can draft players that you like and do not consider risky. i understand you're point but i think merriman is much more risky than a hard working good character rookie that doesn't take steroids.

i dunno whasup with all of u..id take merriman in a heartbeat...who cares what he costs!!! its UNCAPPED and itz not even UR money...he would make this defense 100 TIMES BETTER.. end of story..anyone that doesnt think so hopefully ur happy with our pathetic roster..i know he hasnt produced much and all that crap but hes STILL better then anyone we have at that position. Make the picks conditional on his performance..

so its cool to rag on cushing and be all high and mighty about how bryd should get DROY, but then we should jump at a guy who made the same mistake?

Pass. Merriman stopped being a force. We are a 3-13 team that's building to get better. We don't need to throw away pieces to the puzzble to get better for a novelty

Every rookie, steroids or not, is a big-time risk. Trading picks for proven players can often make more sense than drafting unproven ones. Especially on a team who no stars and where everyone is green as the hills.

As to whether Merriman is worth trading for or not, that's another issue.

I wouldn't give up anything higher than a 4th for him.

The guy has proved nothing since being caught using steroids. And, he's been quoted as saying he'd like a career in professional wrestling. Who knows where this guy's head is at.

Pass.

PFT was reporting that SD wants a 1st round pick. Also that several deals fell through at the draft due to his agent at the time's ridiculous contract demands. Sure bringing him in helps now but the only way to garner long term success is to keep your draft picks and build through the draft and then and only then, when you are closer to being a good team, you can roll the dice on a veteran player.

TheBrownBear
05-13-2010, 03:54 PM
SD is delusional if they think Merriman warrants a 1st rounder. At best they might grab a 3rd rounder. He's been nothing more than average since the knee injury.
