How ironic is this.. down 3-0 in the series.. Philly battles back to make it even. Down 3-0 in game 7 they battle back and win the game 4-3, winning the series 4-3. Epic, just ****ing epic.

Suicides skyrocketed in Boston tonight and all hell just broke loose on the streets of Philadelphia.

Does anything in the history of sports compare?

Toronto Blue Jays losing the division to Detroit in 1987.

The Pittsburgh Pens losing to the Islanders after leading 3-0 in 1977.

I think the Pens/Islanders game was '75, and Pittsburgh didn't even score a goal in game 7 let alone lead by 3.

I'm thinking that Yankees collapse against the Red Sox was worse. But in hockey, I think the Maple Leafs winning the Cup after being down 3 - 0 in the finals.

I know, but that's why I think '10 Boston beats out '75 Pens...the Bruins had a 3-0 lead in Game 7.

I'm staying away from the baseball references because I really haven't followed the sport in years.

True, but the lead was after the 1st period.

The Yankees had a three game lead, they won games by 10-7, 3-1, and 19-8. The Yankees had a 4-3 lead going into the 9th inning. The Yankees had the best closer of all-time on the mound. I get it, you are a Yankee fan and your team can't be known as the biggest chokers of all-time, but they are.

Yeah, I think the fact that 2 (or more? can't remember exactly how many) of the games that the Red Sox won were won in the 9th inning makes it a slightly bigger deal. Oh, and the Red Sox going on to win the World Series helped their case too. If Philly flops now, I'm not sure people will consider it as big of a deal.

I don't know. I'm not a Yankee fan and I think this one is worse. Game 7 was in their house, they had a 3-0 lead and STILL lost the game. Losing with that big of a lead is bad enough, but in the final game of a series you've already blown...that's epic.

We already had this discussion. Are there arrogant Yankee fans? Yeah. The anti-yankee crowd just likes to say all Yankee fans are obnoxius cause the Yanks win so much and can spend more than anyone esle. That's not our fault. I loved them when the stunk. Not like "redsox nation" :puke: that came out of the woodwork when the sux finally won. Throw in that most of the sox fans are also pats fans and they are the worst. Hands down.

This is so true...all Yankees haters generalize every single yankee fan...it's pretty funny. All I know is that Red Sox fans of the last decade are twice as bad as Yankees fans...and of course, are bandwagon fans...I couldn't believe how many Red Sox "fans" there were after they finally won the World Series. I've been a Yankees fan when they sucked and Mattingly, Barfield, Winfield and the gang patroled the diamond and I continue to be a Yankees fan when they win. IMO, Red Sox fans are far more annoying and obnoxious then Yankees fans.

TheGhostofJimKelly
05-16-2010, 11:48 AM
Most of my friends are Yankee fans and we might throw a little fun jab here or there, but I don't consider them to be obnoxious about being a Yankee fan, they are just a fan. I like the Red Sox, I have since I was 11 years old. I don't lose sleep if they lose and I don't jump out of my chair when they win. I would consider myself a "use to be" huge baseball fan, but now I don't really pay a lot of attention to it.

Why do we always try to put down fan bases of other teams, I don't get that. When a team is winning and people follow them, they are band wagoners. When the team is losing the fans are hiding. This is one thing I will never understand. Every team has fans that will come out when the team is winning and not pay attention when they are losing.

Not all are like that clearly.

But, in general, Yankee fans are arrogant and obnoxious as hell and act as if the world should worship them.

Red Sox fans are not much better, but are slightly ahead.

All the time. That's fans talking about thier team. Does not seem any differant than the Mets or Braves thread to me. Someone please explain what Dr L means by expecting the world to worship them since he won't explain or back up his statement. I see that as a dumb statement. Most of our Yankees posters here have the mentality that no other team is worthy of their presence and the world revolves around the Yankees. Red Sox fans are a close 2nd with this mentality.

Cubs in 85 up 2-0 in the best of 5 against the Padres. Leon Durham has his Bill Buckner moment and the Cubs lose the next 3.

Also Bartman. Lose game 6 then lose game 7 vs. Marlins.

I'm not into the blaming Bartman thing. When he did that, they didn't immediately lose Game 6. The Cubs still had their chance and then had a whole other chance in Game 7. He's just the scape goat for loser Cubs fans.

- Philly was an even lower 7 seed
- Philly had their backup goalie in, after the original backup goalie was injured

These things play a part. I don't think postseason expectations can be measured. Boston beat the division champs so they were expected to beat the 7 seed.

No, there are a large number of Yankee fans who think all baseball fans should bow to the Yankee organization, especially around here.

The first exhibit is the thread on a pitcher from another team throwing a perfect game and the Yankee fans coming out and whining because the guy had the balls to call out one of the biggest douches in sports, A-Rod.

They are spoiled fans who cry up a storm if they don't get everything their way and hate it when people call out their BS.

Most definitely, but the West is playing for the Stanley cup right now. The east is playing for 3rd place.
