    Gaither Deal is stuck

Q: Do you think the Buffalo Bills are gonna get the trade done for Jared Gaither? If not, are they gonna go after a Jammal Brown or even a Flozell Adams for a stopgap to teach some of our young prospects?
    -- Frank (Staten Island, N.Y.)

A: Frank, talks for Gaither have cooled off dramatically. No longer is it feasible to expect that trade to get done. The sides talked but are too far apart in agreeing to terms. It doesn't mean it won't one day get done, but it's not close to getting done now, and there are serious reservations that it ever will. So, that leaves Buffalo looking elsewhere, and it's a tough spot. To a certain extent, Brown can help dictate where he will go because if he refuses to sign a long-term deal, a team will be hesitant to trade for him. Adams is on the market at this time of year for a reason. There are no surefire solutions other than the draft. And the Bills believed it was more important to go with running back C.J. Spiller, who should be a great NFL player.

Well, I'm glad the Bills aren't just willing to give up whatever the Ravens want for Gaither. With all the red flags surrounding him, it would be best not to overpay.

It seems to me when this typically happens, the talks will cool for a while, but heat up later on down the line. If the Ravens find that no one else is interested in Gaither, they should be willing to drop their asking price somewhat.

Though I wouldn't be surprised to see Gaither play this year out as a Raven.

I agree as well. Especially if they Cousins plays well at RT. This was the samething with Peters where talks cooled for a month until the Eagles finally pulled the trigger. The best thing we can hope for is that Oneil Cousins looks great at RT and that no one esle steps up.

Lots of time before training camp for the two sides to compromise. Adding Gaither would be a big shot in the arm for the oline. I hope this trade happens, especially for a third rounder and maybe some change.

Thread title is misleading. You got me excited. I thought it said "struck" not "stuck".

My thoughts on the trade talks:

The Ravens put Gaither out there for trade.
The media got wind that the Ravens would be open to taking less than a first.
The Bills offered a third round pick.
The Ravens got a little greedy and decided it wasn't enough.
The Ravens began to look for other suitors.
The Bills told them, "We ain't budgin'."
                    The Ravens continued to look.
                    The Bills continued to wait.
The Ravens turned their back on Buffalo.
The Bills take a seat, waive the third pick in front of Baltimore, and tell them, "We'll wait here. You've got our number."

I like it. The Bills know we need our first and second picks next year. So they offered what they were willing to give and are now playing the waiting game.

                    It's in Baltimore's hands now.

Totally agree. The only way the Ravens can get what they have been asking for is if a team with playoff aspirations loses their LT to injury.

Wow the Bills can have a 24 year old borderline franchise LT for a second, and yet they don't pull the trigger.

Who knows? Maybe the Ravens are holding out for a 1st. Maybe the Ravens & Bills agreed to terms, but Gaither is asking for too much money.

The bills should be trying to get Adams, Brown, AND Gaither...this OLINE IS TERRIBLE! IT NEEDS veterans to mentor them..
