From Ivy League to bigs: Sabres sign Biega

The Buffalo Sabres have signed defensemen Alex Biega to a two-year entry-level contract.

Chosen in the 5th round of the 2006 draft, the 5'11, 205-pound Harvard grad becomes the third prospect inked this offseason after the earlier signings of forward Luke Adam and fellow rearguard Nick Crawford. The Montreal-born Biega, 22, scored 15 goals en route to notching 70 points over his four years in the ECAC. It's expected that the right-hander will continue his development in the AHL with Portland.

Signed Adams, Signed Biega, re-signed Grier.

/off-season for Darcy and Co. They'll be at a tropical resort until October if you need them.

I find it funny that people complain about signing our prospects.

            Talent Analysis
Biega is a well-built defenseman who is a strong skater with a good shot. He has a nice physical side and is tough to beat one-on-one due to his speed. Consistency has been his biggest issue, and he has been known to be caught out of position when pinching in on offense. Biega is a vocal, spirited leader.
