Heads up for you aspiring sports radio people

I was forwarded some information from a friend that WGR550 is hiring for a board op/ show producer/ sports update anchor.

If that interests you as a job, apply here. http://tbe.taleo.net/NA11/ats/career...ENTERCOM&cws=1

This may not be the correct forum, but I figured someone on here would love the opportunity.

This is how I got started. Board op for a local radio station. It's great experience.

    Good luck!

Yes, it is. But you have to start somewhere. This would be a good get your foot in the door job for a young poster on here wanting to get into sports radio.

I started as a board op...and WGR actually offered me a job, but it wasn't worth moving to Buffalo. Instead, I took the job at KNBR in San Francisco. If anyone has any questions or wants in the profession, feel free to PM me any questions you may have. Always willing to help..

I posted that with my tongue partially in my cheek. But I'm also semi-serious about it being a dead end job. True it is a toe in the door, and if you have what it takes, you take that chance and start climbing the ladder, maybe up to a place like ESPN. But do you know how many folks make it that far? Not many.

So the rest of them it's a year or two of working at the bottom before discovering that it doesn't go much higher in local radio. At best you might earn just above the poverty line while have a few laughs, maybe a free t-shirt, a free Sabres ticket now and then, and top it with some access to the station restaurant trade.

Radio used to be a respectable career. Not anymore.
