High school state wrestling champion in Monroe Ga.-Opener vs. Ga Tech on ESPN3 (internet) at 1pm, Sept 4th.

-Reports are he plays with a real nasty streak but will get penalties at times when he takes it too far.

"The ability of Culbreath, the seventh-ranked player in The T&D’s top 20 countdown, has long been lauded by the South Carolina State coaching staff. He was twice MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week in 2008. The first time he garnered the recognition by registering five pancake blocks, three knockdown blocks and seven cut blocks in the Bulldogs 44-3 win over Benedict. Culbreath earned the honor for a second time after tallying four pancake blocks, six domination blocks and five cut blocks in a 35-13 win over Hampton. Three of Culbreath’s blocks in that game led to touchdowns. “He is the prettiest offensive lineman in the league by far,” South Carolina State head coach Oliver “Buddy” Pough said. “He is athletic as anything, has pretty could strength … he could be a great player. I really feel an obligation to drive this guy to greatness. He could almost be a first-round guy. He’s a little immature at times, but he has really come a long way from where he started.”

Comments:

9/6/2010- vs. Georgia Tech

1st Qtr:
12:53- Quick, nimble in getting to the block.
12:07- Whiffs the cut block. Athletic guy.
11:53- Successful cut block.
10:53- Shows his quickness on this play. Runs out to make the block and rides #94 down the field. Uses his arms and leverage well.
10:51- Great technique making the wall and pushing the DE wide around the edge.
10:25- Absorbs the pass rusher and strings him wide. Shows some nastiness with extra shoving after the play. Nimble and quick to react. Nice frame, long arms, not fat.
10:00- Great leverage. Gets in there and fights the DE and turns him to the left to open the hole. Another battle won.
7:12- Flat out mauls his man to the ground, #94. Blows his man out of the way to make the hole.
6:44- Held his man and took him to the ground. Should have been called. He lost his angle as the defender cut to the inside and tried to quickly recover.
5:59- Blown back by the DE. He blocked too high. Ended up with a face mask penalty. He definitely has a nasty streak to him though.
5:59- Great job kick sliding. Does get moved around a bit. He battles with his upper body at times and will move off his base. The stronger DL may be able to move him around.

2nd Qtr:
13:31- Nice block on the run and gets a sustained block at the 2nd level.
12:02- Drives his man back with his legs and turns him to make the hole.
11:08- Nice job fighting it out and winning the battle with #94 to make a hole for the RB.
10:36- Nice kick slide to keep the edge. Angle was good to make the wall.
1:04- Nasty block where he flat out mauls his man in space.

3rd Qtr:
12:07- Picks up the blitz but needed to be a bit deeper to prevent him from getting the edge. He held the block around the edge.
7:04- Another nice job kick sliding to keep the edge.
3:44- Nice job blowing the DL back and moving him out of the way. It wasn't a critical block on this long run though.

4th Qtr:
5:30- Another nice sustained block on the run.
5:12- Pancake block on this run.
3:47- Nasty block pushing his guy way down field. Shows his tough and nasty side.

Culbreath is a nice looking sleeper prospect as a LT. He usually uses good technique but can block high from time to time or not get deep enough at the edge. He has good strength at the point, makes a nice wall, and can sustain blocks. His best asset is his athleticism, hes quick, agile, and nimble. But, his determination is also a nice feature, he plays with a mean streak and loves to battle. This is a guy to watch.
