Report: Lynch will practice today (http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/14411/report-lynch-will-practice-today)
By Tim Graham

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Buffalo Bills (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=buf) running back Marshawn Lynch (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=10456) finally will take part in a voluntary workout Tuesday (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5287521).

Schefter cites someone who has spoken to Lynch. Not sure how reliable that is. In a story dated May 23, Yahoo! Sports writer Michael Silver quoted Lynch as saying he would show up to practice "sometime within the next week (http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/13916/maybe-lynch-will-attack-offseason-later)." The closest he has come is to show up at One Bills Drive to lift weights, and he avoided new head coach Chan Gailey.

Lynch has been posturing for a trade, and maybe he's hopeful Jason La Canfora's report on NFL.com is true (http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/14375/report-seahawks-want-lynch-from-bills). La Canfora blogged the Seattle Seahawks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=sea) are interested in trading for the two-time 1,000-yard rusher.

Or maybe what the Bills have said all along about wanting to keep Lynch on the roster is accurate, and he's resigned to that fact.

Change not big for linemen (http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/06/14/change-not-big-for-linemen/)

By Chris Brown - Posted June 14, 2010 – 12:03 pm
Bills OT Jamon Meredith, who is currently manning the starting left tackle spot in spring practices (http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-3/Meredith-finding-a-comfort-zone/abc98e53-af3f-43b1-b74d-cbaa763fbb4f), says the techniques being taught now aren’t much different from what he was being drilled on last year.
At times blocking techniques can have different schools of thought and thus are coached differently from coach to coach. But Meredith doesn’t see a big difference from last year.
“Not much of a change,” he said. ”Everybody pretty much teaches the same stuff, but a few coaches specialize with a few different things, but a lot of it is similar mentalities.”
Knowing it’s one less thing that’s completely new is likely refreshing to a group of linemen that are getting accustomed to a new offensive scheme with new terminology as well as the cadence of four different

Report: Seahawks have interest in Lynch (http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/06/14/report-seahawks-have-interest-in-lynch/)

By Chris Brown - Posted June 14, 2010 – 1:06 pm
According to NFL Network reporter Jason LaCanfora, the Seahawks are still interested in Marshawn Lynch.
UPDATE: LaCanfora reports that at least a fourth-round pick could’ve been had for Lynch’s services (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d818a6952&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true).
Here was LaCanfora’s initial twitter post on the subject.
JasonLaCanfora (http://twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora/status/16164066143) Seahawks remain quite interested in Marshawn Lynch should Bills opt to deal him. Would make sense. More upcoming on NFL.com and NFLNetwork.
Reports that there is interest on behalf of Seattle is anything but surprising. They acquired Lendale White as part of a draft day trade and then released him a month later as his level of commitment was questioned. With Leon Washington coming off a major leg injury and Julius Jones the only other proven back on the roster, you could see how they might be interested in a player of Lynch’s caliber.
Of course head coach Pete Carroll remembers how Lynch routinely carved up Pac-10 defenses and the Seahawks are reportedly employing a similar zone blocking scheme to the one used at Cal. The only question is the compensation willing to be offered, if it even gets that far.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bills RB Marshawn Lynch will take part in OTAs for the first time today at One Bills Drive.
Schefter reported that Lynch is back in Buffalo (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5287521) and is expected to practice.

Gaither called a “drama king” (http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/06/15/gaither-called-a-drama-king/)

By Chris Brown - Posted June 15, 2010 – 9:08 am
A lot of Bills fans desperate for finding a long term answer to the team’s left tackle position have pointed to Ravens young OT Jared Gaither, who has reportedly been on the trading block. Shedding some light on just what kind of player an NFL club would be getting in Gaither is Baltimore Sun columnist Mike Preston.
Preston labels Gaither a “drama king” (http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-preston-ravens-column-0615-20100615,0,7598604.column?track=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+baltimoresun/sports/football/rss2+%28+Ravens/Football%29) as he lists how the 24-year old tackle blessed with talent and promise, doesn’t maximize that ability on the field and appears to lack the same work ethic as his teammates. That’s why no team is offering the Ravens anything substantial to acquire him.

Lynch asked pointed questions (http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/06/15/lynch-asked-pointed-questions/)

By Chris Brown - Posted June 15, 2010 – 1:23 pm
Bills RB Marshawn Lynch was asked if he still wants to be in Buffalo following his first day on the practice field this spring (http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-3/OTA---Day-10---Lynch-practicing/22df38c2-b9c1-4c04-80ab-826e076f26f9).
“I’d like to play football, whether it’s here or whether it’s somewhere else as long as I get to play football I’m feeling great,” said Lynch.
He was also asked if he feels he can ever get a fair shake in Buffalo again. Here was his response to that question.
“I would like for it to be that, but we live in a world where people are going to make up their mind and they have their opinions,” said Lynch. “Take your opinion, take it how you want to, but I’m going to be me whether you like it or not. You can say that you don’t like me from a distance. Most people that interact with me have a different feel. I take it with a grain of salt. As long as I get a fair shake inside these lines that’s all I’m really worried about.”
Finally he was asked if he expressed a desire to be traded to the club and here was that response.
“There wasn’t no expression, but with the way that things were looking, it looked like it was a possibility,” Lynch said. ”If it would’ve happened, it would’ve happened. If it didn’t, I’m back and I’m here to practice.”

CJ & Marshawn transcript:

CJ On each running back having different traits:

I always say I think every running back is very different. They bring something
totally different to the game and it's a good thing to have all three of us on
one team. I think we have the best backfield in the NFL with all three of us
here. We just have to continue to take it one day at a time and continue
building. It's going to take a team effort to win. You can have all the talent
in the world but you still have to have a team. Only teams win Super Bowls.

Teammates react
Lynch’s teammates were generally pleased to see him back out on the practice field. Friend and backfield mate <nobr>Fred Jacksonhttp://www.buffalobills.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/fred-jackson/9197889b-672f-42fb-ba04-3b75b8afb81a/)</nobr>, who confirmed Lynch did everything in practice felt he was sharp despite having limited exposure to the new scheme.
“He kind of picks things up on the run,” said Jackson. “It was very evident (Tuesday). I only had to talk to him about a couple of things. Everything else he had (down). He came in yesterday and talked to coach Modkins. Obviously he studied it last night and he came out there and was ready to go. That’s always a positive any time you can hit the ground running like that it’s going to be good for you.”
With two former first-round draft choices in Buffalo’s backfield in Lynch and Spiller as well as Jackson, who put together the sixth-best all-purpose yardage total in a single season in league history in 2009, the players are excited about the possibilities.
“I think every running back is very different. They bring something totally different to the game and it’s a good thing to have all three of us on one team,” said <nobr>C.J. Spillerhttp://www.buffalobills.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/cj-spiller/57e42512-c2ee-4ca7-8400-f1d85b3dbfcd/)</nobr>. “I think we have the best backfield in the NFL with all three of us here. What Lynch told Jackson (http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/06/15/what-lynch-told-jackson/)

By Chris Brown - Posted June 15, 2010 – 2:28 pm
It’s common knowledge that Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson are more than teammates. Being good friends, Lynch confides in Jackson, who shared what Lynch told him about deciding to come and practice.
Jackson believes Lynch will be nothing but professional and do what he can to help the team win come September.
“I think things will work out for us this year and hopefully things can be put behind us and we can move forward and we can go out and get into the playoffs,” said Jackson. ”I think that’s what everyone is focused on now is making plays on this team. I think that’s why he’s back now. He wants to win too. I talked to him too and he told me he just felt like he needed to play football again and he needed to be back here and be part of a team. That was one of the reasons he came back.”

If it were up to me...all three players mentioned above would be on the Free Agent Wire.

Lynch- Disgrace to the Bills and all hardworking players out there

Mitchell- Old and slow, bad attitude and nauseating coverage skills

Scott- Jauron leftover that can do no better than 4th best safety on the team. I like him as a player but he really dosn't have a spot.

I'd tend to agree on Lynch and Mitchell, though at this point I think we don't have enough depth to get rid of either. They stink, but they're better than any other option we have at this point.

Scott is a pretty good run-stopping safety, though. He provides cheap, valuable depth.

Gona disagree on B. Scott. He had a very good year in 08, they manned him up on TEs quite a bit, and he held some top notch players to pedestrian numbers. Opposing TEs in Scott's 2008 starts:

Antonio Gates - 4 Rec 55 Yds 0 TD
Anthony Fasano - 2 Rec 17 Yds 1 TD / 3 Rec 36 Yds 1 TD
Vernon Davis - 0 Rec
Dustin Keller - 1 Rec 5 Yds
Tony Scheffler - 2 Rec 56 Yds
Ben Watson - 0 Rec

College CB that's versatile enough to step in at LB? You don't see that every day. Scott has played far better than anyone expected him to, and is definitely one of the underrated players on the team. Obviously I can't confirm that he was covering TEs every snap, but I do remember seeing him manned up on TEs more than any other safety on the roster had been, and he didn't disappoint.

Bills will have a QB depth chart at camp

Paul Hamilton Reporting
Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm all have another 10 days or so to sort themselves out in the competition to be the Bills QB. In today's practice, Edwards was the first on the field. The competition will still be open in camp but Chan Gailey said, "I'm trying not to jump to any conclusions, I want them to work it out, not me to work it out. I want them to work it out by performance on the field. We won't have a starter named, but we'll probably by the time we get to training camp have somebody that is going to work with the first group, somebody that's going to work with the second group going in. Just because if it happens that way, then you've got a leg up. If you try to get everybody equal shots from the first day of camp, then you probably get nobody ready rather than getting three ready so we'll probably make some determination from this, decide for lack of a better term pecking order for camp and then go from there, but it still will be open when we go to camp."

Late last week Bills DE Aaron Schobel said he was leaning toward retirement. On Wednesday Bills head coach Chan Gailey was asked to comment.
“It’s up to him,” said Gailey of Schobel’s status. ”He’s a good football player and has been a good football player in this league and in Buffalo for many years. I’d like for him to be on the football team but I understand his situation, too. I really do. That’s part of life.”
The team’s stance on Schobel has been unwavering throughout, which is basically that if he wants to play they’d love to have him back, but if he wants to retire they’ll wish him well.

QB pecking order by camp (http://blogs.buffalonews.com/billboard/2010/06/qb-pecking-order-by-camp.html)

Bills coach Chan Gailey said today he's continually evaluating his QB depth chart and will have a top two determined for the start of training camp. That means he will have a top two for the start of camp. The first-team QB on July 29 won't be the "designated starter" to open the regular season.
Asked if he will have his team's starter in mind by the end of next week, Gailey said: "No but we will probably by the time we get to training camp have somebody that is going to work with the first group; somebody that’s going to work with the second group going in. Just because if it happens that way, then you’ve got a leg up. If you try to get everybody equal shots from the first day of camp then you probably get nobody ready, rather than getting three ready. So we’ll probably make some determination from this, decide for lack of a better term, a pecking order for camp and then go from there. But it still will be open when we get to camp."
The QBs continued to rotate on Wednesday. Ryan Fitzpatrick took the first snaps in the 7-on-7 drills, followed by Trent Edwards and Brian Brohm. Edwards took the first reps in 11 on 11 drills, followed by Fitzpatrick and Brohm.

Wood, Bell ahead of plan (http://blogs.buffalonews.com/billboard/2010/06/wood-bell-ahead-of-plan.html)

Bills coach Chan Gailey said after today's voluntary minicamp practice that offensive linemen Eric Wood and Demetrius Bell both are well ahead of schedule in their rehabilitation from injuries suffered last season. Wood is coming back from a broken leg suffered in November. Bell is coming back from a torn knee ligament suffered in November.
Said Gailey: "Our training staff, I’ve got to give Bud Carpenter and his staff kudos because they’ve done a great job of getting those two guys to where they are today. I mean Eric, we’ve been talking about maybe letting him get on the field and do some things before we get out of the last minicamp. That’s an amazing recuperation. emeterius is way ahead of schedule as well."
The Bills have six practice days left, one Thursday and five next week. The last three are mandatory.

6/16 Chan Gailey Transcript

On the return of RB Marshawn Lynch:
We’re glad to have as many players as we can get. The more we work together, the better football team we are. So it’s always good to have a good football player back working on the football team.

On if Lynch has some catching up to do:
Yeah, sure he does. Both on the field and off the field he has some catching up to do. But it seems like he’s a quick study. That’s what it looks like in my initial look at him. So I think he’ll be all right in that respect.

On having to share the ball with three running backs:
At this point it doesn’t matter. It only matters when we get to September. So I’m not worried about finding out how to do that today. Let’s get everybody on the same page and get all of the basics down, be fundamentally sound. Then we’ll worry about all of that other stuff.

On if the three running backs each bring something different to the field:
From what I have seen on film, yes. I haven’t been around them enough to be specific but you can tell they do have differences in the way that they do things. They all bring something a little unique which is good. The great thing is all three of them can catch the football which is really good.

On if in his experience the three running backs can be used sufficiently:
I’ve never really been in this situation where we have three like this. But I certainly am looking forward to seeing how it all pans out because I think you have a chance to give defenses some real problems with that many good running backs and football players.

OTA - Day 11 - Open QB competition to continue

By Chris Brown, Lead Journalist
Posted 21 hours ago

All three of Buffalo's veteran quarterbacks have had their moments in the passing game during team work through the course of OTA practices this spring. A month into the practices however, it does not appear as though any one has established themselves as a clear front runner in the eyes of head coach Chan Gailey.
Gailey admits he has thoughts as to who his starter might be, but that it is far from a permanent thought.
“We form (ideas about) that every day and no, I can’t share that because it may change in the next five days,” Gailey said. “So I’m trying not to jump to any conclusions. I want them to work it out, not me to work it out. I want them to work it out by performance on the field.”
The Bills head coach said there’s a good chance that a starting quarterback will not be officially declared even on the first day of training camp, though he intends to have a defined depth chart at the position.
“By the time we get to training camp we’ll have somebody that is going to work with the first group, somebody that’s going to work with the second group going in just because if it happens that way then you’ve got a leg up,” said Gailey. “If you try to get everybody equal shots from the first day of camp then you’ll probably get nobody ready rather than getting three ready. So we’ll probably make some determination from this, decide for a lack of a better term a pecking order for camp and then go from there. But it still will be open when we go to camp.”

Brohm in red zone (http://blogs.buffalonews.com/billboard/2010/06/brohm-in-red-zone.html)

The Bills' offense didn't look particularly impressive in Wednesday's organized team activity practice, although you can't draw too many conclusions either way from a spring workout in shorts. Brian Brohm had the best two completions during 7 on 7 red-zone work. He hit tight end Derek Schouman in the back corner of the end zone on his first play and then hit James Hardy in the same back corner on the next play. Both were pinpoint throws. Ryan Fitzpatrick got the first chance in 7 on 7 work Wednesday. Brohm was second and Trent Edwards third in 7 on 7. The rotation went Edwards, Fitzpatrick, Brohm, Brown; then Fitzpatrick, Edwards, Brohm, Fitzpatrick in 11 on 11. Brohm also fit the ball in a tight window to tight end Jon Stupar in the red zone session.
Buffalo's Naaman Roosevelt had a good day catching the ball overall. He made a grab over the middle near the goal line then held on after a slight collision with safety Jon Corto (in a meeting of former All-Western New Yorkers). Roosevelt made a good diving catch oiver the middle and caught one on a hitch pattern, both from Fitz. Roosevelt did have one drop on an out from Fitz. Stupar made a nifty catch on a slant from Levi Brown. Ashton Youboty created the best pickoff of the day, deflecting a pass fro Stupar, and Drayton Florence had a quick reaction to catch the carom.
Marshawn Lynch did not get a lot of snaps. He had a couple runs early in the 11 on 11 session. Much of the time he was standing right next to an assistant coach or leaning toward the huddle to get the signals for the upcoming plays.
Right tackle Cornell Green was out, Gailey said, due to a muscle pull. It may keep him out a couple days. With him out, the first team offensive line, left to right, was Jamon Meredith, Andy Levitre, Geoff Hangartner, Kirk Chambers and Nick Hennessey. Absent were Marcus Stroud and Shawn Nelson.

Bills FS Jairus Byrd has made another all-NFL list. The Sporting News had him listed as a member of their Top 25 under 25 NFL roster.
Byrd was chosen as the under 25 free safety for the SN’s Under 25 squad. Sorry an online link is not currently available. The only other AFC East players on the squad were New England LB Jerod Mayo, Jets QB Mark Sanchez and CB Darrelle Revis.

Brian Brohm through two redzone days has come out on top.

Considering our redzone woes for the better part of a decade, I'd say this is good news.

Keep it up Brohm!

Watching Edwards and Fitzpatrick is about as exciting as watching paint dry or grass grow. It's time for change.

Brohm likes Gailey's planPaul Hamilton Reporting

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- When Chan Gailey said he'd go to St.John-Fisher with his quarterbacks ranked it now gives the three guys competing one more week to impress. Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm all get first team reps and have since OTA's started. Brohm likes that they'll know when training camp starts, "I think it's a good idea if the coaches have an idea of the order in which they want to see us go. I look at it more like a seeding of sorts, one, two, three, four kind of like how they seed a basketball tournament, but I think it'll be good that the guy they think has the best shot will get the most reps."

With the team being together for over a month the question is does Brohm get a sense of where he fits in? "Right now I feel good about what I'm doing, that's all I'm concentrating on, each and every play that I'm out there I'm getting the most out of it. I'm getting the most out of the reps I'm getting, we're all getting a lot of reps, getting a lot of work so the best man is going to win this job." He talks about feeling good so what exactly is going well? "I feel very comfortable about the offense right now, I feel good about how fast I'm picking it up and learning the intricacies of the offense, I feel like I'm throwing the ball well. The competition's pretty strong right now, I think we're all doing a pretty good job out there. The game's slowed down for me quite a bit, I'm feeling really good about where I'm at right now as opposed to where I was last year or the year before. I feel like I made strides each and every year and I look forward to the next week of practices because I think it'll be a big week. I definitely feel I'm better than when I got here, I just feel really good about where we're at right now and just keep pushing forward and keep working and things will continue to get better."

Of the three, Brohm seems to be money dropping the ball in on fade routes for touchdowns. Brohm said, "I think that's always been a strength of mine, those touch passes over the shoulder, just placing it over the defender in man to man coverage. I was good at that in college and those are strengths I've continued to work on and I feel really good about those throws."

Best part of that article!

Gailey interacts with his players on the field a lot more than Dick Jauron or Mike Mularkey did. Brohm likes that, "He sees the plays develop, he can see the whole field. I think he can see the play from a quarterbacks perspective. There's times when I've made a throw and the defense has broken it up and he'll say, 'Hey, I would've thrown it to the same place. He's seeing the same type of things we're seeing but he'll jump in there and tell us when he thought we should've gone somewhere else with the football or if we should've made a better throw."

I just want to see something different. Brohm deserves a shot.

And as I've said before, it is my opinion that if the competition is even remotely close between Edwards and Brohm the Bills should and will go the route of Brohm.

It makes sense age-wise, potential-wise, fan-wise.

He is an unknown, and if he is performing just as good as someone we have already given a chance, then I think giving this kid a chance as well.

That's just my own opinion though.

I don't know if I'd read too much into that. Gailey is going to be the OC as well, while Mularkey and Jauron had someone else OC'ing.

Yes but I remember both playing the role of the overseer type at practices... standing there watching, hardly ever saying a damn thing. Factor in that both treated the locker room like the plague, I like to see a HC more involved with the players in any type of fashion.

OTA - Day 12 - Brohm feeling good, Wang update

Wang update
Since suffering a left leg injury a couple of weeks ago fifth-round pick <nobr>Ed Wanghttp://www.buffalobills.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/ed-wang/a37ecec2-657c-4d26-ad38-33467119dad8/)</nobr> has been out of sight, until Tuesday when he was given clearance to attend practice as a spectator. The offensive tackle said he has observed practice every day since. He remains hopeful that he’ll be able to return to the practice setting some time during next week’s mandatory minicamp.
“I’m feeling good,” Wang told Buffalobills.com. “Rehab is going very well. They do a great job with the rehab here so you know I’m feeling good right now and we’ll go from there.”
Wang admitted that when he initially sustained his injury he feared the worst.
“Yeah it was scary,” said Wang. “That happened to me once before and I ended up breaking my ankle. It was a scary thing when it happened, but when I got hurt I was able to put weight on my foot so I knew it wasn’t broken.”
As far as Wang is concerned the injury is behind him and he’s eager to rejoin his teammates on the practice field.
“It’s good to get this out of the way,” he said. “It’s done with now and whenever they say I’m ready to go I’m ready to go.”
Long passes
According to Bills WR <nobr>Chad Jacksonhttp://www.buffalobills.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/chad-jackson/4b79cabb-3d76-4a84-83dc-d144be1b150a/)</nobr> the Bills offense was able to strike for a pair of long touchdowns during the team segment of practice Thursday, with Jackson responsible for one of them.
“The defense and the offense we’re out here competing, especially the D-Bs and the wide receivers and we had two big plays today and got behind them. Felton (Huggins) had the first and I got the other one on a post. It doesn’t usually happen, but it was nice to end the day on a good one.”
Getting behind Buffalo’s defense in the practice setting has proven difficult at times through the course of the open OTAs.
