The penalty for a lateral, blindside hit to the head, which will be called "illegal check to the head," is a five-minute major penalty, as well as an automatic game misconduct. The League also will consider supplemental discipline.

The thing that worries me about this is I believe it's at the discretion of the referees. So they might not think it was a hit to the head when it was.

Kind of like how Matt Cooke skated away with no suspension last season.

and there will be times they call it when it wasn't too. It's a deterant to behavior. It works.
