Just curious as to who you guys think are the best sports reporters out there . Who do you trust? Who's knows their stuff etc?

Jay Glazer. He's probably one of the more accurate reporters out there. I also like his personality.

"As Jay Glazer screams unnecessarily in to the microphone, trying to prove an invalid point..."

No.

I'd rather listen to Suzy Kolber's plastic voice than that self loving moron. It's either Mayne or Berman in my book due to the fact that I take very few sports reporters seriously. "Zomg they'll do bad or good, here's why!?"

Bob Ley has always been phenomenal too... since it's never really live news on his end.

Glazer's inside info is top notch. Like him or not, lately he's been right more than most insiders.

Glazer's inside info is top notch. Like him or not, lately he's been right more than most insiders.

Only on the big stories though and only on teams that he is friendly with. Glazer isn't good for day to day news and lately (past 12-18 months) he's shown major biases towards those teams and players he works out with.

The best guys are still Schefter and La Canfora for NFL news, but Aaron Wilson at NFP.com is getting up there as well.

Reporter wise which is not what any of the above mentioned, Im partial to guys like Wilbon, Whitlock, Ryan, Bianchi, and my hometown guy Mark Bradley.

Breaking News: Schefter (but Glazer does beat him to a lot of stories)
Play by Play: Gus Johnson
Color Analyst: John Madden
Sportscenter Anchor: Chris Berman, Scott Van Pelt and Bob Ley

Gus Johnson should do every big game of every sport from now on.

My favorite color analyst is actually John Gruden, I think he's really good on MNF.

Anchor though is SVP.

I don't know what it is, but I can't stand Rich Eisen. He drives me insane.

Totally agree. There is something about him now that he is on NFLN that just rubs me the wrong way.

I personally think Dan Patrick was the best sports center anchor. Plus his radio show is by far the best show in the biz hands down. I highly recommend people to check it out. His interviews aren't the same expected crap questions you hear from guys like Rome.

Example Jim Rome post inteview:

"Wow what a great inteview with (insert NBA player). That guy is a class act. I love interviewing (insert NBA player). He is always welcome on my show. I am just blown away at how (insert NBA player) conducts himself. Blah Blah, yada yada while Jim Rome continually gives the interviewee oral service for 10+ mintues"

I agree with Aaron Wilson. But for a while there before the draft Glazer was hitting on stories while Schefter and Canfora were missing. :idunno:

I'm not going to live or die by him though, I still go to Schefter first. But I liked him better when he was with NFL Network.

I actually prefer the Tony Kornheiser show to DP's but both are very similar acts.

I like kornheiser to but some times he shows his age when it comes to pop culture events, etc. Dp talks to his guests like they are having a beer at the bar. Plus if you ever listen to his show you will notice how many topics pti, sports nation, and even sports center steal from his show. It pretty sad on espns part.

Gus Johnson play by play for me, he is entertaining. For news Shefter is the best, but its kind of unfair.

Im going to mix it up and go to college football, Lee Corso is pretty good.

In fact the best football show on TV is College GameDay, hands down the best IMO.

I'm a die hard Tarheel fan but I think Dukie Jay Bilas is a knowledgable, objective reporter on college hoops who knows his stuff. Even when the Heels and Duke play he keeps his cool. A good example for others who cant contain their biases.

Old School - Bob Ley - his Outside The Lines show is top shelf.
Younger - Scott Van Pelt - Very knowledgeable and well prepared. He should be a star for a long time.
Specialist - Jay Bilas - College Basketball. Not a Duke homer. Makes every game sound fantastic with his background work and knowledge of the game.
Honorable mention - Ron Jaworski for his film work on the NFL shows.

To tell you the truth, I don't usually look at who is writing a story...I'll just basically read anything I can get my hands on. I know some names, but that doesn't interest me. At least with the written word, you can focus on what is "said" rather than the personality that is saying it. Then you can make up your own mind about what what said a lot easier than if you have to see and listen to a person actually speak.

Off the top of my head, some guys I like are Jon Gruden, Boomer Esiason, and Trent Dilfer. I kinda like Chris Berman too, but I'm not crazy about ESPN's format, especially lately...they skip from one sport to another, etc. Always like Madden, but he's done. Terry Bradshaw always has fun with it.

The list of guys I don't like is too long.

i could listen to Scotty Ferrall all day. that guy knows his sports.

Personally, I couldn't. His voice wears on me after a little while.

But a very good friend of mine who does radio here in FLA was Scotty's roommate when Scotty worked in Tampa for a few years.

He worked hard, and also caught a few breaks, to get where he is. Good for him.

Pretty amazing how things work out for people sometimes.
