John McCargo, Buffalo’s second first round pick (26th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft, will now be one of the edge linemen in George Edwards’ new defensive scheme. For the 6’2”, 307-pound McCargo, this is his first time ever playing the defensive end position.

“It’s been challenging, but it’s kind of what was expected. I’ve never played end before, so I’m going into it trying to do something totally new,” McCargo said. “I’m taking it a day at a time, just trying to learn and do the techniques that my coaches want me to do because it’s totally different. (But) nothing I can’t handle.”

I think his skill set is fairly well-suited to be a 3-4 DE...maybe we can salvage something out of him.

It would be nice to get something out of him. Let's hope he can find a comfort at end.

I think he's a no-talent assclown that should be on indys roster

every year with the mccargo stories at the beginning of the year...and by midseason he'll be out of a job. He's not the guy to bank on turning it all around.

He won't beat out Johnson or Carrington. Where does that leave him?

I completely forgot that he was still part of team until today

he will move from DT (the middle) to DE (outside) to EB (end of the bench) to.... the UFL

If he shows ANYTHING at all, it will leave him as a rotational guy.

How was Indy able to get away with supposedly flunking him on a standard physical when the Bills passed him?

Then again, it was the days of Club Jauron and the team didn't exactly have much of a passion for anything-- even filing grievances.

I am a little confused by this article...McCargo couldn't get on the field at the position he's played forever...how the **** is he going to switch positions, and somehow shine bright enough to get on the field?

This is a bust of Flowers/Williams proportions. Let's just ****ing dump this dude already.

Just think...we SHOULD have had Nick Mangold instead...

ugh.

Oh God. He's played DT all his career and still sucked at it. Now he's going to learn a new position?

Good luck making the roster.

3-4 DEs are basically the equivalent of 4-3 DTs. There's not much of a learning curve.

Other than having no help on one side.

Other than having no help on one side.

Not usually true. The 3-4 OLB is usually blitzing.

That was exactly what I was going to post. I saw the name John McCargo in your title and said: "Woah, forgot he was still around."

ugh. Not to mention Haloti Ngata. I do recall being here 4 years ago and favoring him. But instead, Whitner... ugh indeed.

what an absolutely worthless draft pick.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if all of these busts actually panned out with the switch to a 3-4?

I'm not so sure that is a very accurate statement. The clue is found in a statement made by the interviewee as follows. "...it's totally different."

I think even the most optimistic among us have a gifficult time seeing a McCargo turn around at this point.

The problem with McCargo is that he has no heart. Maybe he can find some with the new regime.

It wouldn't surprise me if quite a few of them end up doing just that. I seem to recall that a lot of these guys were 3-4 players who wound up converting to other positions.

He's got the size to be a rotational guy at nose. They should gauge how he's doing as a DE in camp, and if he's struggling, give him one last shot as a rotational NT. If he can't cut it there.... so long!

What other choice does McCargo have? It's this, and then out of the NFL.

That would be great.

It would also prove how stupid the previous coaching staff and GM's were for running the wrong D with the guys they had.
