The comments on this thread will surely crack me up.

Have at it guys.

This is just a general comment, but who's been right the past three years? The homers like you, or the whiners?
You deride the critics with such smugness, but ever since Black Sunday, we've pwned the addicted-to-mediocrity apologists.
I'll never forget the comment you made when the Sabres began their new era. Something like "How can you not be excited about this??"
I also remember how you mocked the Penguins for pouring so much money into a few huge contracts.
Good calls.
So don't talk down to others as if you know what you're talking about.

My comments had to do with this.

Everyone *****es up and down about Lalime and how much they hate them. But if the Sabres decide to give the job to Enroth, people will ***** that they didn't re-sign Lalime. To some, the Sabres will never make the right decision.

As for the bolded part, I don't remember when I exactly said that, but I know I did. I also know they won the division last season and made a huge improvement going from 10th in the conference to 3rd.

This is partly what I'm talking about.
The addiction to mediocrity in Buffalo includes playing up numbers that mean absolutely nothing.
I don't give two turds about the regular season. It's all about the Cup, and when the Sabres got to the playoffs, they showed that they didn't belong there. They were pretenders.
The addiction to mediocrity seems to include a contempt for the idea of winning a championship. Whenever we demand legitimate contention, and insist that the status quo is not good enough, we're derided as whiners and haters.
The mantra around here is, "We're just lowly Buffalo, we should just be glad to have a team." Championships are for the big boys, and the only way we'll win one is if we hit the sports equivalent of the lottery.
Well some of us don't accept that. And if the rest of you just want to be cheerleaders, fine, but don't think you have any basis to snidely look down your nose at criticism, because like I said, year after year after year the whiners are right.

I don't know how much I'd argue that they didn't belong there. Regardless, if you think I'm a blind homer that backs the team no matter what, you couldn't be more wrong.

I'm not trying to turn this into a "hey, come read my blog" type of post, but I've been VERY critical of the team throughout the past season.

Like I said, my original post was that nobody will ever be pleased.

Example.

Sabres don't sign Kovalchuck. No commitment to winning!
Sabres sign Kovalchuck. How could they give him so much money? Terrible decision!

The point is, people have good reason to be negative.
With the exception of the Sabres' run three years ago, both of Buffalo's teams have been negative for most of the decade. And the premature dismantling of that run added to the negativity.
So it's insulting to label some fans' negativity as just for the sake of negativity. As if the problem is with us and not the teams.
The only way we'll know whether "nobody will ever be pleased" is when there's actually something to be pleased about. Perpetual mediocrity does not meet that threshhold.

Oh and, of course, the BZ slogan: "If you don't like it, go find another team!"

I guess what really bothers me is how the Sabres are bashed to no end and it seems like the Bills always have a free pass. Those idiots haven't even had a winning season in a decade. At least the Sabres have had some runs, and some division titles. I hate how they are held to a different standard.

Mr. Pessimistic himself (OP) stated a few times last season he didn't think this team would make the playoffs. Guess he is always right...

This just shows a lack of understanding of the problem.

The people who want to get rid of Lalime want an UPGRADE. The guy who spent 80 of 82 games in the minors backing up Lalime is NOT an upgrade. The people ***** are *****ing because they want the team to get better. Change for the sake of change doesn't make the team better.

There are more options besides just Enroth and Lalime. Or, there were- right now, it looks like we're stuck choosing between Enroth and Lalime. FO fail.

Free pass????? You do go into the Bills forum, right??
What the hell are you talking about??

Yeah, I missed on that one. But I wasn't that far off because I also said that if they do make it, they'll have an early exit, and I predicted the first round loss to Boston.

I also predicted that we'd miss the playoffs for the two years before that.

So, nice try, but that's revisionist history right there.

They might as well have not made the playoffs. I don't see a difference besides extra paint on the ice.

Then they should show the whiners some respect instead of "Can't wait to see the comments on this one! This should be good!"

Um, how do you know this?

Enroth has 1 game of NHL experience under his belt. Might I note that in that game he was completely hung out to dry and got zero support from the team.

So again, how do you know? This is what I'm talking about in the Leopold thread. Lots of assumptions and little facts.

Hell, I don't know if Enroth will be an upgrade, but I sure as hell haven't decided that he isn't.

First, it's not really an assumption to say that the guy in the minors who can't win Lalime's roster spot is not as good as Lalime. That's called "logic."

Remember when Briere and Drury left, and we replaced them by simply promoting guys who were behind them on the depth chart? How did that work out? Well, this is the same thing.

Second, I don't know how Enroth would do in the NHL... but since I don't know, I'd rather have a goalie with NHL experience who is better than Lalime than an unknown.

See how that works?

When was he given the chance to win Lalime's roster spot? I don't remember that happening.

No, it didn't work out with the Drury and Briere situation. I also don't think you can relate this to that. Enroth is a different person and he isn't replacing the captains, just Lalime (a guy nobody likes anyways).

I understand you want someone better than Lalime with experience. I also understand not much is on the market in terms of that. At some point Enroth needs to get his chance to at least prove he's an NHL caliber player.
