Best Pick: Jerome Gauthier-Leduc

As many as two teams were rumoured to have Leduc as a late first rounder while another half dozen had him going early in the second round. Nabbing the high ceiling francophone offensive blue-liner early in the third round was a great pick. I get the feeling we’re gonna be talking about Leduc the way that we talked about Kris Letang as he made his way out of the junior ranks.

Safest Pick: Mark Pysyk

Pysyk was touted as a possible Top Ten pick coming into the season but missing a third of the schedule and possessing what is viewed as a limited pro offensive upside caused him to drop a few slots. Pysyk is a Dan Hamhuis type defenseman, a reliable pressure valve with the puck, solid defensive play and the ability to contribute a little on the powerplay as needed.

Biggest Surprise or WTF Pick: Steven Shipley

Almost a point per game player with a great frame, it’s tough to understand why Shipley fell into the fourth round. As he learns to use his frame, he’ll be an even more dominant force at the next level. Shipley needs to improve his agility on his skates if he ever wants to be more than a really good third liner at the NHL level but he’s definitely got pro potential. Not bad for a fourth rounder.
