This must be pure speculation, but ESPN rumors placed his name with the Sabres:

In the Northeast, the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens probably can't afford him either. So that leaves the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres. The Sens have some money issues and they decided to keep Jason Spezza, so this might not happen. But the Sabres are an intriguing possibility, because they could very well trade Tim Connolly at some point this offseason, freeing up cap space for Zherdev. But even if they didn't, they have enough money to get the Russian signed.

I was just about to post this.

It wouldn't be a bad move. Will add scoring. Maybe he can click with Roy and Vanek and finally give us a feared 1st line.

The only problem I can see is Lindy's track record with Russians. Not only does Lindy have to sign off on it, but Zherdev has to agree to play for him. I'm sure he's talked to Afiniginov and Kozlov.
