KIRKLAND — At the end of last season, wide receiver Alex Bannister decided he wanted to have a larger role in the Seahawks' offense. After watching quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and the starting receivers rack up huge numbers during the second half of the season, Bannister knew he wanted a piece of the action.

So the third-year player from Eastern Kentucky, a former fifth-round draft choice, set out to earn more playing time. He took part in the team's strength and conditioning program, ran more sprints and participated in martial arts, adding a few more pounds of muscle to his lean frame in the process.

When offseason minicamps opened in the spring, Alex Bannister set out to make his coaches believe that he was ready to take on a larger role in the offense.

The third-year wide receiver ended the offseason Friday night with a performance that proved it beyond doubt.

Bannister hardly needed to make the statement, as he had one of the best training camps of any Seahawks player and had already solidified his position as the team's fourth wide receiver.
