From the sounds of what's happening at practice, the offense desperately needs him.

Anyone want to revisit the "Spiller doesn't want to be in Buffalo" threads?

I hope he makes a difference....a $30MM difference.

Let's get this season started.

The base of this deal is a very good deal for the Bills.

The guaranteed $$ is right in line with what #9 should get, considering what the other 1st rounders have signed for.

But the $25 mil falls between the #12 and #13 picks!! Granted the escalators can make ot worth a lot more, but if he hits those, it's obviously a win-win for the Bills, assuming they aren't for benchmarks insanely easy to reach.

I bet Spiller will be one of the few rookies that actually earns their contract.

Go Bills!

he may not want to be a Bill but he now has 20 million reasons to be one anyway.

Hell, I think the New England Patriots represent all that is unholy, evil and wrong, but if they offered me a $20 million contract I'd be on the next flight to Boston without a second thought.

but I still call the "Spiller doesn't want to be a Bill" story a huge huge bunch of crapola that was spun on forums by those who can't cut through the media BS that gets fed to the masses regularly

Ballsy contract by Nix and Co. guaranteeing 80% of the base salary. That's a big precedent to set but the numbers aren't so much that it matters much. Still be interesting to see how that goes over with the NFL who have uncharacteristically already rejected 5 rookie deals so far for varying reasons.

Either way Im happy, it will be nice to see CJ out there.

If he didn't want to be a bill, he would have held out for more than just a FAIR contract. Come to think of it, he would have ask for only a 4 year contract.

I believe Bradford's contract was rejected because some intern copied and pasted a section into a place where it didn't make sense.

The rejections were all due to minor reasons, and the players were allowed to keep practicing while the teams fixed the issues.

Is the NFL supposed to care how much of the contract the Bills guarantee?

And hopefully it's not too much of a precedent, as a rookie cap should be in place next year

I dont think the NFL would care but I do this year they are reviewing every contract more strictly to make sure no franchise tries to do something sneaky. Not saying the Bills did, just a very interesting thing they did guaranteeing so much.

I think we'll see some form of a rookie cap in 2012 but not as strict as many are clamoring for, its not going to solve the slotting issue that currently exist completely. People who think the money saved on rookies is going to go to vets are out of their minds. The only place that money is going to go is to the bottom line.

This is good news...and to answer the question about Spiller playing O-line...very clever and original, however, I would argue that a player that has the speed and skills of Spiller command a certain amount of respect, which should cut down on blitzes, and would make the O-line better.

CJ Spiller will be the best thing that happens to this line this year.

Now it's time to get down to brass-tacks.

k-oneputt
08-06-2010, 01:22 PM
Spiller will make the o-line look better. Edwards may have a another view.

Philagape
08-06-2010, 01:38 PM
A point that needs to be made yet again is that the line is NOT bad in run blocking.

And that Spiller will make the offense better than any one lineman who was feasible.

Anyone notice the rope around his neck with a 100 concrete block at the end as he talks to Chirs Brown by the Pittford water trail ? He was so ready to jump because he dun't wanna be a bill?

I found that to be a very strange contract as well, but who cares, he is signed! The high percentage of promised is prolly the reason we were able to keep the total money down.

Anyone want to revisit the "Spiller doesn't want to be in Buffalo" threads?

1. The running game is doing just fine without him.

2. I said "maybe" he doesn't want to be in Buffalo. Like I said, there's plenty of reasons ($$$) for him to just bite the bullet and show up.
