16 players injured, 14 definately out

well, some things never change..it is the first pre-season game, can you imagine the number of injuries once they start playing games.

    INJURY NOTES
Derek Schouman has missed the past few days of practice and did not return on Wednesday as was expected. 8/12

James Hardy was banged up late in Tuesday's practice and left early. He is expected to be out 7-10 days and will not play against Washington. 8/10

Ryan Manalac Limped off the field during Tuesday's practice session and was attended to by trainers and then returned. He did not take part in practice on Wednesday and won't play Friday night. 8/12

Andre Ramsey suffered an undisclosed injury on Monday morning and remains sidelined. 8/10

Felton Huggins suffered a shoulder injury Monday morning when he came down awkwardly. It was a serious injury and he has been placed on the waived/injured list. 8/11

Cornell Green left practice early on Saturday with a muscle tweak. He remains sidelined and won't play in DC. 8/12

Jason Watkins walked off the field during Thursday's practice with trainers. He is back practicing and will play on Friday night. 8/12

Marcus Easley will have surgery on his leg that he injured last Monday when he came down awkwardly. He is out indefinitely and Chan Gailey did not rule out the injury being season ending. 8/12

Ed Wang underwent surgery on his left thumb on August 3rd and is out 4-8 weeks. He is watching practice with a big bandage on it. 8/5

Daniel Batten left practice early on Aug 1 with a shoulder injury. Chan Gailey said the injury is a significant one and now says he will be out 2-6 weeks. His arm is no longer in a sling but will be out at least another two weeks. 8/10

Spencer Johnson left practice early almost two weeks ago after tweaking a leg muscle. Chan Gailey had hoped he would only miss a week. 8/1

Paul Posluszny is back taking part in individual drills but still isn't doing team drills. He underwent groin surgery to take care of a minor problem and was expected to be sidelined for two weeks. He will miss the preseason opener. 8/12

Jon Corto will be out until the third preseason game likely because of wrist surgery he underwent after the summer workouts. 7/30

Keith Ellison is now back taking part in team drills but not individual drills. He has been sidelined since the beginning of training camp with an undisclosed injury. He likely will not play on Friday night. 8/12

Demetrius Bell continues his recovery from a torn ACL last season. He is getting more time off than most players as they ease him back into shape but he won't play in the preseason opener. 8/12

Eric Wood has returned from a fractured tibula and fibula of the lower left leg suffered late last season. He is participating in training camp but is being brought along slowly. After not missing any workouts the first few days he has missed more workouts recently and won't play Friday night. 8/12

I'll be more interested to see what the list looks like for the second and third games.

                I don't have a problem with this.

                a) some of these guys are healthy enough to be playing if it was a regular season game
                b) some of these guys are coming off pre-existing injuries
                c) some of these guys are scrubs that won't make the team
                d) most importantly...this is football weed out the ones that can't stay healthy

They're going to hold guys out for precautionary reasons in the preseason. You think a starting offensive tackle in the NFL is going to miss a regular season game for a "muscle tweak?"

Nothing to worry about. Poz, Green and Schou will play Game 1 barring catastrophy, Wood is precautionary. There's no need to risk injury to these guys. The preseason is for young guys to show what they can do, and also to see how your team can click.

Worried about game 1, not fake game 1.

It is much better this way, these guys are not used to hitting this early, so instead of everyone going down week one we get all the bumps and bruises out of the way early. Guys play banged up all season.

Actually, there is a reason to risk injury: practice in the new system. It's a balance between risking injury and risking being unprepared. I don't know if they are striking the right balance or not, but this team needs all the practice it can get.
