"The thing is out of all three, Fitzpatrick had the experience," Owens said. "It wasn't until he got in there that I started getting more involved in the offense. Prior to that I just felt like I was just there, running routes."

Coincides with a lot of the articles put out about that whole ordeal.

Edwards' average pass travels 7.7 yards in the air. That's tied for 26th in the league among quarterbacks with at least 10 attempts.

As the accompanying chart shows, Edwards' stats plummet the farther his passes fly.

Edwards throws 10 yards or shorter 77 percent of the time. He has thrown only 21 passes beyond 10 yards, and eight of those were longer than 20 yards downfield.

The Elias Sports Bureau tracks every play, and it credited Edwards with only two pass attempts that traveled more than 40 yards in the air and 21 that traveled farther than 20 yards.

But 140 of his 183 attempts were 10 yards or shorter, with 47 of them thrown behind the line of scrimmage.

ugh. I did not need another reminder of just how bad Edwards sucks

It is just painful. I had such high hoped his first season and the start of his second, I even bought a signed card, but since then I haven't seen anything that would suggest progression or the possibility of a sudden turnaround.

So it's Edwards fault that TO cba to make the required efforts? How many passes did he drop?
Typical diva receiver response - it's somebody else's fault.

It explains a lot. It also explains why Evans gets so little balls thrown his way when Edwards is on the field too. He's less likely to look down the field and dumps off as quick as he can, because he's a pussy. Hence the name Captain Checkdown.

I feel bad for Edwards. He seems like a nice guy. It sucks that he has hindered his own progression in the league.

Cue HH with the much overplayed offensive line sucks card.

I'm sorry, but if you've got it. You've got it. The great quarterbacks push through adversity. Edwards is not very good.

**** Trent Edwards

I'm all for starting the season with Brown, at least there's hope we can get lucky. Trent and Fitz, who didn't even look interested or like he was trying to get a first down, are not the answer.

So Owens made the cardinal mistake of running 7 yards beyond the LOS on a pattern.

What a fool.

Something else to add:

The issue with keeping Edwards as the starter is that he has a history of being far too conservative. To illustrate, consider that Edwards threw a vertical pass (defined as thrown 11 or more yards downfield) 19.4% of the time in 2009. That percentage was the 2nd lowest in the league, below even that of noted dink and dunk passer Jason Campbell (20.5%). Ryan Fitzpatrick, on the other hand, threw vertical passes 34.9% of the time (a total that ranked him 6th in the league) when he was under center in that same offense. Reed spoke of needing more leadership but it is hard to get a team to rally around the less than aggressive approach that Edwards brings to the table.

Just two of Trent Edwards' 183 pass attempts last season traveled more than 40 yards in the air.

This confirms what we already knew -- Edwards is painful to watch. ESPN's Matt Williamson points out that C.J. Spiller has a chance to make some Edwards' checkdowns exciting, but we don't have high hopes. The Bills may be better off seeing what they have in Brian Brohm.
