TAMPA - The middle of June is no time to be looking for running backs in the National Football League.
Free agency has come and gone, the draft is a distant memory and June 1 passed.
Thursday's indictment of Michael Pittman accentuates the chances Tampa Bay's leading rusher will not be on the active roster when the Bucs open defense of their championship Sept. 8 at Philadelphia.
The Bucs are concerned about their depth at running back, but Pittman's uncertain status is not considered alarming, because Tampa Bay used a committee approach for much of the 2002 season.
Pittman led the Bucs with 204 carries and 718 yards during the regular season, averaging 3.5 yards per carry before bursting through with a 124-yard effort against the Raiders in the Super Bowl
