    Injuries - 21 total

    INJURY NOTES

By contrast...the Eagles, for example who are known for tough camps, had 5 total players on their injury report and only one player missed the Eagles last pre-season game.. what is going on?

Michael Matthews injured his lower left leg during Sunday's night practice. He was placed on the waived/injured list on Monday. 8/23

David Nelson returned to practice on Sunday morning only five days after being taken off the field on a cart. It was originally thought to be a severe injury but turned out to be just a sprained ankle. He is not 100% yet but he is working through it on the field. 8/23

Jairus Byrd will be out at least through the rest of the preseason after undergoing groin surgery for the third time in two years. He had groin surgery that cut his rookie season short. He also had sports hernia surgery two years ago. Reports now say that it is not related to last year's groin injury and not as severe. It's not expected to linger as well. He is resting at home as he recovers from the procedure. They hope to have him back by opening day. 8/23

Daniel Batten left practice early on Aug 1 with a shoulder injury. He has been placed on injured reserve ending his season. He was originally thought to be out 2-6 weeks. 8/23

Marcus Easley had surgery on his knee and has been placed on injured reserve ending his season. He hurt his knee when he came down awkwardly on it during a practice session early in training camp. 8/23

Shawn Nelson missed the Colts game because of a pulled muscle he suffered in practice earlier in the week. He remains sidelined. 8/22

Reggie Torbor is expected to be sidelined three weeks with an undisclosed injury. He was undergoing more tests over the weekend. 8/21

Derek Schouman is expected to miss 3-6 weeks with a knee injury suffered in the win over Indianaplis. 8/21

Kyle Williams missed practice on Saturday after getting banged up in the win over Indy. He is not expected to miss too much time. 8/21

Cary Harris missed practice on Saturday after getting banged up in the win over Indy. No word on how long he'll be sidelined or the nature of the injury. 8/21

Marshawn Lynch suffered a sprained ankle against Washington and was expected to miss 3-4 weeks but Chan Gailey said he may return to practice as early as this week. He did some running drills on the side with trainers on Saturday. 8/21

James Hardy injured his foot two weeks ago in practice and remains sidelines. He says the soreness is gone and he's waiting for the inflammation to go down so he can return to action. Chan Gailey thinks he may practice this week and could play on Saturday against Cincinnati. 8/21

Chris Kelsay saw his first action of the preseason against Indianapolis and played two series. He returned to practice fully this week after being sidelined since the first day of camp with a shoulder injury. 8/19

Cornell Green returned to practice on Monday after being sidelined a week with a knee njury. He did start against the Colts. 8/19

Paul Posluszny played in two series against Indianapolis after being sidelined since the beginning of camp as he recovers from groin surgery. 8/19

Keith Ellison made his preseason debut against the Colts. He was sidelined for the first two weeks of camp with an undisclosed injury and missed the Washington game. 8/19

Demetrius Bell continues his recovery from a torn ACL last season. He is getting more time off than most players as they ease him back into shape. He did start against the Colts. 8/19

Eric Wood has returned from a fractured tibula and fibula of the lower left leg suffered late last season. He is participating in training camp but is being brought along slowly. He made his preseason debut against the Colts. 8/19

Fred Jackson left the game against Washington after the first series with a broken fourth metacarpal bone in his left hand. Chan Gailey said he'll miss the rest of the preseason and he is expected to be out from 4-6 weeks. He is shooting to return in time for the opener and the fact that it is the left hand may shorten the time he is off the field. 8/16

Ed Wang underwent surgery on his left thumb on August 3rd and is out 4-8 weeks. He is watching practice with a big bandage on it. 8/5

Jon Corto will be out until the third preseason game likely because of wrist surgery he underwent after the summer workouts. 7/30

Matthews sucks because of the Nelson suspension. Now we have no depth.

David Nelson is back. No big deal.

Byrd hurts, but he will be back sooner than later.

Batten was a sixth round rookie. It was doubtful that he'd see the field. But, disappointing none-the-less. By many reports he was faring well. It sucks, but it's not the end of the world.

Marcus Easley really hurts depth wise and for his development. He was opening eyes in OTAs.

Shawn Nelson is suspended, so his injury isn't really important in the matter.

Torbor, meh. It'll be nice seeing what Ellis can do. He'll be back in a few weeks anyway.

    Schouman is always injured.

    Kyle Williams is resting.

    Cary Harris- who?

Lynch is a running back. Him missing time is no big deal. He should be back for the season opener.

Hardy hasn't done anything healthy, but our WR depth is struggling. Could use him back.

    Kelsay isn't injured anymore.

    Green isn't injured anymore.

    Poz isn't injured anymore.

    Keith Ellison isn't injured anymore.

Bell is rehabbing and slowly coming back. He isn't injured anymore.

    Eric Wood isn't injured anymore.

Fred Jackson will be back soo. Even if he isn't by week one, we'll have Lynch, Spiller and Bell. We're golden.

Wang wasn't going to see time as a rookie.

    Corto- Does it matter?

Point is, I think we are fine. A lot of these players will be back for the season. If they aren't then they aren't real big factors in a rebuilding year.

I'd rather the players face a tough training camp and get through some injuries in the preseason than the regular season.

Injuries are a part of football. Are we cursed with more than other teams? It seems that way. But in a rebuilding year, it's not the end of the world. If anything, it's getting some young players and fringe players playtime.

The big names (Jackson, Byrd, Lynch) Those guys will be back. The other guys we need (Bell, Green, Wood, Poz) They're back.

      lol at this..

Both Nelsons are fine. One is in some trouble. But neither are injured.

      Poz is fine.

Byrd would play if it was game day. trust me.

      Wood is fine.

      D-Bell isn't considered injured.

Kyle Williams got a much deserved break.

These are the injuries we normal would have seen starting in game 1 because there was no hitting under DJ in camp.

I am glad they are getting banged up a bit now instead of at the beginning of the season. Most players in the NFL play banged up the whole year. This is a extremely physical sport.

What is the point of these endless injury threads?

Many of those listed are minor training camp bumps and bruises, while others relate to players being brought along slowly because of serious previous season injuries.

Very few are season ending, with the exception of Batten and Easley.

Our injuries appear no more abnormal to me than any other teams.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

this is what was thinking while watching them at camp. It seemed to me they were playing around while stretching.

I suspected we would have alot of injuries early because Gailey was determined to change the culture of this team.

He actually laughed/scoffed at Lynch's injury maybe implying he was a wuss.

I think Gailey is shooting for players that can stay healthy and play through injuries.

If we get alot of injuries through the course of the season or next camp than I might get more concerned.

i really hate that we are in year one of the gailey experiment. we had enough data to conclude jauron was a failure. there is no way he should have been coach for 2009. Gailey should have been installed then, and we would have saved ourselves the maybin debacle, we'd have not had a totally loss of a year, and we might have gotten some use out of TO.

this team makes it so hard to love them sometimes.

                      Re: Injuries - 21 total

A problem that a high number of pre-season injuries causes, is that it puts a real crimp in the coaching staff's ability to evaluate what they have when it comes to the final cuts and it becomes time to set the final roster. Especially so with the rookies, the young vets.

You cut a young player because you just haven't seen enough game action, and he goes on to success with another club.

Another bite is when you end up with a lot of players on IR from the previous season come draft time. It's hard to determine which will recover, or not.
As an example - are those two OLs going to be ok? Do I have to draft thinking, no they won't, or yes, they will? Should I go out and buy some FAs?

If you can only dress 60 or so out of an 80 man preseason roster, you lose a lot of evaluation. The injured rookie or short-timer might be better that the injured vet, by you have lost the opportunity to see.

So do we have the most injuries of any team or did you just cherry pick the one team with the fewest injuries to make a slanted point?

Keep up to date on NFL injuries with CBSSports.com's injury report.

We don't look any worse than the rest of the NFL. In fact the Giants, Broncos, Cowboys and Rams look to be in much worse shape.

Here's the PUP/IR lists. We're bad but other teams are just as bad.
