They can be 'officially' put on injured reserve now, without counting as a roster spot.

Yeah, so we should only need to officially cut three players.

I thought they were already officially on IR.

They were, but until the first set of roster cuts happened, they actually counted as two roster spots. It was either that, or put them on waivers and hope no team claimed them.
