To play in Portland and have in case of injuries throughout the season, I'm good with the deal. It doesn't hurt to have a veteran guy to call up for emergencies.

Yeah, but he lacks talent.

The Sabres have a bunch of guys like Ellis, Gaustad and Kaleta, who play hard every night but lack elite talent.

Then they have a bunch of guys like Connolly, Roy, and Pominville, who have loads of talent but don't play hard and sometimes even look like they don't give a ****.

What we need are 1-2 guys who play hard every night AND have talent.

sorry, I forgot we were talking about the Sabres. They should steal the tag line from the Krusty Brand Seal of Approval: "The Buffalo Sabres: They're not just good- they're good enough!"

I'm just being realistic.

If the Sabres were the Sabres of '05-'06 or '06-'07, Ellis would be on the farm team. But right now, I don't see how he doesn't make the Sabres. You can say he lacks talent, you can say he doesn't have great hands, but the guy plays balls out and is great on the forecheck. I would want him on my 4th line.

Ellis is garbage...but at least the garbage will play in Portland.
