This guy was released by Cinci because Gresham made him expendable. He's better than any TE we currently have on the roster. I hope they sign this guy.

I don't even know who he is and I'm onboard.

I don't even know who he is and I'm onboard.

2nd year, from Missouri. Won the Mackey award in 2008, 83 receptions, 900+ yards, 10 TDs. He was mostly split out in a spread formation.

Tall, not the fastest, a good enough athlete, unknown as a blocker, good hands. Uber productive in college.

Better than who we have presently suiting up.

His father is Paul Coffman who played with Green Bay and Kansas City as a TE. Had a 10 year career starting in 1978 and is in the Packers Hall of Fame.

Ohh and I never agree with these "bring him in" threads but I do on this one. I saw quite a bit of him on last years Hard Knocks with the Bengals.

Sean Ryan got cut by Tenny. He's an ex Boston College TE from this area and not bad.

What's funny (actually sad )is that I did scan the cuts for TE's and thought they were all pretty much better than ours. :sadwalk:

..."Coffman came to the Bengals last season out of Missouri as college football’s most prolific pass-catching tight end ever. But he arrived rehabbing a broken foot acquired on the final snap of his college career and was never fully healthy enough to dress for a game. Coffman ended up never playing a game for the Bengals not only because of his health but because he barely ever played in a stance in high school and college and the blocking part of the NFL game didn't come easily for him."

He was the 2nd of two CIN 3rd rounders last year. They certainly tried to work on his blocking, but the comments by the beat reporters last season indicated that he just wasn't up to it. His cut isn't a surprise.

BUF should take a hard look at CIN's #6 who was cut - Dez Briscoe from Kansas.

LOL Big slow TE's with big college #'s are James Hardy in the NFL.

Can't block and only pick up #'s being split out wide = a big slow wide reciever. Same reason we will be lucky if Shawn Nelson ever amounts to squat.

... As this got side-tracked, I wanted Coffman on this roster bad during the draft. Now that he's been let go... he can't be any worse than effing JP Foschi.

x2

i know he had trouble learning the playbook and blocking on the bengals but he is head over heels better than any active player we have on the roster at tight end right now.

If you watched Hard Knocks last year with the Bengals, you wouldn't want Coffman. Can't block and appeared to be as dumb as a stump.

Nelson showed he can be serviceable as a blocker in last year's opener. He'll get better.

so you don't think he is better than jp foschi? he was a rookie last year. rookies need time to learn. i understand he must have really stunk it up for the bungals to cut him but he can't be any worse than jp foschi.
