They claimed Kraig Urbik as well. He was one guy who might be able to help. He was a 3rd round pick for the Steelers a year ago.

Martin is better than Stupar and is now the Bills best TE

I like the move. So Foschi and who else has been let go?

Dujek

And they've released Dominique Harris along with Foschi.

That's the type of moves we should be making, I like it.

Wow, if I didn't know any better the Bills' front office has targeted positions on this team where the depth is paper thin and went out and signed players whom can help out.

Didn't think that would ever happen here.

Called it :P

I like both moves. Ubrik has to be better than Chambers and, as already mentioned, Martin is our best TE instantly.

I know, it seems like we are finally realizing that these green backups can cost you if/when they have to play.

Looks like the FO actually is alive and kicking, contrary to popular belief. ;)

I like the Urbik signing, as he should provide much better depth at guard.
Martin is also a solid pickup.
Good job done by the the FO.

These are the areas where Nix and Whaley can really prove their worth to the Bills (and the draft obviously), and it looks like Buddy is following through on what he says.

Urbik can play OG with Levitre when they eventually move Wood to Center

So the PS now consists of Bell, Ferguson, Roosevelt and Watkins. Good start. I'd like to see Allen and Brown added.

Signing Martin a week before the Bills play Miami makes a lot of sense.

Nice. Both signings make sense. Do they still pick up another TE or go with just two until Nelson is back in week 5?

Allen was sort of rumoured to be going to be on it I believe - something about his name staying above his locker. ;)

You would have to assume that Harris will get signed to it, assuming he isn't claimed by someone else, and is eligible. If Brown does get signed, that would just leave one spot available. I don't think Levi will get a call immediately, as I think they will be in wait and see mode for a bit longer. I don't think they have done with Levi, by any means, but I'm not so sure he will be needed for the PS.

Good moves. Even if nothing comes of it, at least they're bring aggressive.

Does anybody have any info on Urbik's release? The Steelers don't have a great offensive line. It seems strange that the Steelers would give up on a third round pick after one year.

Heres some note on Urbik from a Steelers fan:

3nd Round - Craig Urbik Guard, Wisconsin, 6'5", 325 2009 Evaluation: Very disappointing that Ramon Foster, an undrafted free agent, started several games at left guard while Urbik failed to even dress for one game. This is mostly because Foster can play Guard or Tackle while Urbik seems to be strictly a Guard, but it is still disappointing. Training Camp in 2010 will be big for Urbik to see if he can really play in the NFL. Trend: Down
Mid-Season Notes: The kid has yet to dress for a game. Trend: Steady
Pre-Season Notes : Urbik has had trouble adjusting to the speed of the Pro game but this isn't unusual for an O-lineman. Trend: Steady
Draft Day Impressions: Urbik will probably go about his business during his first 2 years and then, without anyone noticing, he will be starting for the Steelers and do VERY well.
He can play Right Guard or Tackle which opens up the possibility of Willie Colon (http://www.markberger.com/games/steelers_2006_draft.htm#4a) moving to Right Guard one day and Urbik playing Right Tackle.
Draft Grade: C+, Predicted Grade after 3 years: B-

I found this as part of a chat:

Mac: Ed, what's the deal with Craig Urbik? Are we ever gonna get a OL draft Pick right? I'm still not even sure I like Pouncey cause he comes from a spread offense

Ed Bouchette: Urbik enters his second season. Let's see him in his second camp before we label him a bust as a third-round pick. they have not spent many high picks on OL until Pouncey. And I'm sure the scouts knew he played in a certain offense in college but many have made the transition.

Good point. The Steelers are not at all good on the O-line.

I like the move. I am sure he knows the Fins too. The Fins have made head scratching moves. I think we start 1-0.

I liked Urbik before he was drafted, but his inability to work on the Steelers is a little unusual.

I find it interesting that people just automatically think the Steelers' OL sucks simply because they give up sacks. They are generally bad in pass protection, but they are rock solid in the running game. They're not superb, but they're a heck of a lot better than people tend to make them out to be.

Add to that a QB that scrambles around a ton and holds on to the ball.

Wow! So this is what a true football GM does when he realizes that the depth players that he has on the team sucks? He actually upgrades them! Nice moves. Martin is a good TE and definitely better than Foschi and even Stupar! I like it. I also like Urpik as a depth move. Very nice! :bf1:

I hope they arent done and plan to grab a WR too.

Urbik is difficult to judge being that he doesn't seem to have a lot of field time.

He should be our number 1 TE as of today.

I just read 4 other teams put a claim in on him, The Broncos, Bengals, Fins & Jets. He was awarded to the Bills because they had the worst record of those teams last year.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, or how much validity is behind it...

Unfortunately, now he’ll be doing that job for the Bills after the Dolphins got a little too cute and cut the ninth-year veteran with an eye toward bringing him back after Week 1 (when his contract would no longer have been guaranteed).

Martin and Fasano were a very good tandem, It doesnt make sense that they would bring Martin back after he blew out his knee only to cut him again.

It was an odd move to say the least
