    Cutting it close on stadium work

    The completion of upgrades to Alltel Stadium is running within weeks, even days, of the Jaguars preseason kickoff.

    The stadium's end zone changes are supposed to be done July 28, and the perimeter plaza fence and gates are supposed to be finished Aug. 10 -- five days before the team's first preseason home game.

    The schedule became more complicated when crews could not set structural concrete as planned in February because of rain. It wasn't complete until March 22, said Bill Prescott, the Jaguars vice president and chief financial officer, though flexibility in the plans should allow The Haskell Co. to finish on time.
