Way to keep it classy Bill. Stepping down, 5 days before season starts. LOL

Team says it was planned this way all along, but something smells a bit "fishy" (pun intended):

Maybe a little more Miami disarray before Sunday?!

Way to keep it classy Bill. Stepping down, 5 days before season starts. LOLHe really isn't stepping down, just giving Jeff Ireland full control. Parcells is still with the team and going to have a voice.

Timing is not that odd, because it really is the end of the personal year. The draft is over, so is free agency, and the 53 man roster is set. This is Sparano's time of year. Now, all work from Parcells and Ireland's end of things is getting ready for the 2011 offseason. Not surprised at the timing at all.

Not really that surprising. This was the plan from day one and the timing is perfect in terms of the NFL calendar. The draft and free agency are over and the 53 man roster is set. All work from that side of the team from now on is preparing for the 2011 offseason. What he is basically doing is taking the training wheels off of Ireland for next year.

Parcells is still with the team, it just means that Ireland doesn't have to run everything by him first.

In terms of FO people, Nublar is 100% right, its the start of a new year with the scouting ranks getting going and the timing makes perfect sense. I cant see anyway how this should or would affect the Dolphins on the field since they likely have little to no interaction daily with Parcells.

i would have thought parcells would have stayed through the CBA and give some guidance that way.

Yeah, but the national media is always telling us how Parcells makes them better?

He does and he will continue to do so, you seem to think he is no longer going to be affiliated somehow. That's not what this is, he is simply going to a consultant type position, as opposed to actually pulling the lever, he is simply advising on it now.

DB, I was being sarcastic! I'm just saying...he gets too much credit for a team that really hasn't done much of anything.

I haven't seen much of anything written on Parcells, good or bad.

Gotcha, though I do think he does a lot and I do think he is a great talent evaluator. Personally I love the way Miami has built their squad and I think they are one maybe two pieces away from being a challenger for a deep playoff run in all honesty and a lot of that is thanks to Parcells.

I like Parcells, I'm just not sold on the talent there. I don't see this great QB in Henne that most in the media do. Their RB's are so-so and their OL is average besides Long. I'm not saying they're not better then the Bills, but I don't see a HUGE difference.

Yes DB.... The Dolphins 2009 draft and Bills recent playoff success proves you right..

Much ado about nothing, he's not leavibg the team he's just taking a smaller role.

We'll be fine.

Shouldnt you guys worry more about Gailey and Nix than Ireland and Sparano?

Just sayin' Interesting perspective from a Dolphins fan that seems to spend an inordinate amount of time on a Bills message board. Just sayin'.

I only hang around the mains during Fins-Bills week for the most part.

Rumor has it that Parcells did not want his legacy ruined by what is going to be a long season in Miami.

LOL! This was as "planned" as the Bills firing Turk Schonert a week before the season started last year. Parcells never left any of his other teams 5 days before the season started.

And you may be onto something, HH. Miami doesn't have the look of a playoff team this year.

Parcells did not leave the team. It was the end of the the front office year, and all preparation now is for the 2011 offseason. Also, Miami is much more of a playoff team than the Bills.

Relatively speaking, they may be more of a playoff team than the Bills (and that's highly debatable). But they're still not a playoff team.

As for the end of the FO year, the FO still has a lot of work to do during the season. I just don't see why he didn't step down at the conclusion of Miami's 2010 season? But whatever. It's six of one, half a dozen of another. Everyone knew it was only going to be a for a couple years anyway.

Haven't seen anyone mention the biggest factor: his contract became fully guaranteed when the team was sold. His two options are 1. work 75 hours a week and get paid a ridiculous sum of money and 2. not, and get paid a ridiculous sum of money.

Also, now he's in a position to take all the credit if the team does well, and none of the blame if they don't.

And then there's the whole disassociating from teal and orange thing.

Not a tough decision, IMO. He's going to take the money and run, and I would too.

However, besides picking up players to fill roles of injured players, the FO year for 2010 is really over. All work this fall will be scouting college players for the 2011 draft and starting to eye which veterans will be free agents. They will also evaluate the current team and decide what players should get extensions and which probably won't be around for long.

There is no more draft prep for 2010 and wooing big time free agents, or even finalizing the final roster. That is all done. Of course there will be some minor tinkering during the season, but if you consider that to still be part of the front office year, than really there is no real break. I guess a good example of that tinkering is the news this morning that Ireland just signed Pro Bowl kick returner Clifton Smith.

Now, Ireland can start getting ready for the 2011 offseason. The timing of Parcells shifting power is perfect.
