Trent Edwards has a lot to prove for Buffalo Bills

    Preach, brother.

The time has come for Trent Edwards to either prove he can be a productive NFL quarterback, or fade into oblivion as another in a long line of well-paid clipboard carriers.

There is no denying this fact — it's now or, probably, never for the 2007 third-round draft pick. And while Edwards has done his best to avoid facing that reality in every interview he does, others around him are perfectly willing to make that confirmation.

"Sure," said new head coach Chan Gailey, who picked Edwards to be his starting quarterback and believes he can resuscitate the 26-year-old's sagging career. "Anybody that has not done that on a consistent basis has something to prove.

"There's not many of those (franchise quarterbacks) around, so there's a lot of people that have that to prove and Trent's one of them."
Lee Evans, who is the Bills' No. 1 receiver, has played three years with Edwards. He has seen the fourth-year pro go through more than his share of peaks and valleys in Buffalo, and at the end of last year, Evans was among the masses who believed that Edwards might not be back with the team in 2010, given the wholesale organizational changes that were made.

However, Edwards was retained by Gailey and new general manager Buddy Nix. And then, when he was asked to participate in a three-way battle for the right to be Buffalo's starting quarterback, Edwards rose to the challenge and easily beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm.

Some say that Edwards is just the best of a substandard batch of quarterbacks. But Evans, for one, sees a new and improved player and he thinks Edwards' career may finally be ready to launch.
