SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah running back Marty Johnson will be suspended for at least one game this fall after pleading guilty to drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Johnson will be sentenced in July and could be suspended for two games. Utah coach Urban Meyer said he will determine later what game or games Johnson will miss.

"Although this situation occurred before the current coaching staff was hired, I felt it was appropriate for us to discipline him," said Meyer, who recently replaced Ron McBride.

Johnson was arrested Oct. 27 for driving under the influence, crashing into a car parked across the street from Rice-Eccles Stadium and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

Johnson told officers he had been at a party where he got into an argument with four gang members. Johnson said the gang members were after him and his car accidentally hit another as he tried to hurry away.

Typically, Johnson would have been suspended from the team following such an arrest, but he had not played or practiced since a season-ending knee injury Sept. 7 against Indiana. Johnson was the nation's leading rusher at the time, averaging 202.5 yards after two games.
