View Full Version : Would you trade Lynch for AJ Hawk?

Grant is out for the year, GB needs a RB.

As we all know we have 3 starting RB's.

This is not to lend any credence to the rumor that a deal is in the works:
http://boards.buffalobills.com/showthread.php?t=288237

I merely ask the question as to whether you would be in favor of this.

Hawk has had decent numbers:

Hawk has a contract of around 4.6 mill this season vs. Lynch's 3.787 mill... so its not a big stretch.

We all know the issues with Lynch. We all know we could use better LB'ing. After all the injuries.

So, would you trade Lynch for Hawk?

Get it done. Even if Poz can play a full healthy season for once (which is highly unlikely), we still need another ILB because obviously Moats, Ellison, Davis, and Ayole aren't the long-term answers.

Nix has been GM since January and hasn't made 1 trade. Not via draft, picks, players, anything. No trades. I have my doubts about this man.

Nope. The reason that GB wants to get rid of him is because he is not very good in the 3-4. His best years were in a 4-3. Not only that but look at his best years, they are comparable to a LB already on this team, Poz.

Hmm, I thought he was making more than that. I'm torn. He didn't play a snap last game for Green Bay, though it was said they were in nickel and dime all game.

Mad Max
09-14-2010, 08:21 PM
No. He's a destitute mans Poz.

I'd rather we stay the course. Let's "Run what we brung" and collect experience for the young guys in addition to draft picks.

Ickybaluky
09-14-2010, 08:27 PM
Hawk is strictly a run-down player now, he is terrible in coverage. Green Bay only plays him on run downs, but takes him out in any sub situations. That is why he hardly played against the Eagles, because Green Bay played nickel pretty much the whole game.

Hawk may play more against the Bills because you guys should run more, but he basically has lost his job to Brandon Chillar (who they signed to a contract extension). I don't think Green Bay would have any problem trading him.

I know Hawk has a recognizable name because he was the #5 pick in the draft, but his value is nowhere near that rep. He is basically a better version of Andre Davis. He would seem redundant for the Bills, given they already have Poz and Davis as inside guys who struggle in pass coverage.

Apparently able to stay healthy, also, as opposed to the POS.

Pretty sure I read that Hawk doesn't enjoy playing in a 3-4. Not really a fan of his, but lets be honest, Lynch isn't getting the proper touches and his value is sinking by the day.

If Lynch is given a chance, he's going to be way more productive than Hawk, but the team need LBs and has depth at RB. Tough call to make, but it's better than getting nothing.

Pats received a 4th and 6th for Maroney, and Lynch has been the more productive back while playing behind a worse offensive unit. I'd like to get picks instead of Hawk, but again we can't destroy Lynch's value by having him on the bench.

He is still redundant, as his skills are too close to what you already have. He wouldn't strengthen a big weakness. Plus, he is overpaid for his role. This is probably his last year in Green Bay, they aren't going to keep him around for the money he makes. He is due something like $10M in salary next year if they keep him.

Makes more sense for the Bills to get a draft pick if they trade a player. That helps them build for the long-term.

I would agree if such a situation exists.

In the absense of that, we, in principle, would be moving from a position of strength and adding to a weak spot.

Im a fan of layers of LB'ers. Id like to have solid players at those positions and be able to move them in in waves. I dont like that one of our primary backups is Ellison. And, with all the injuries that Mitchell and Poz seem to have, that leaves us starting these guys that just dont have it.

Here we have a proven starter, who hasnt missed a game due to injury since 06 and that at the worst is as good as our starters who cant stay healthy.

If were simply trading a backup for a backup, I'm fine with that if it helps our LB'ing depth get better. I think we are actually trading a backup (Lynch) for a starter.

Buffalogic

Another Poz, that would be horrible...he is the only player in the league that ever gets hurt....that may be a direct correlation that because when he is on the field he is always making tackles...Stupid piece of ****.

And to think, we drafted Poz when we could have drafted Lawrence Taylor and had him cryogenically frozen, only to thaw him out right now...he wouldn't have smoked crack, and had sex with a 12 year old prostitute, and we would have a LB...

So, would you trade Lynch for Hawk?

Nice Idea X. GB likes Jackson and says they feel like he can shoulder the loud just fine. But they gotta say that right? And after this week they'll probably look right, but after a few weeks Lynch's superior talent would bump jackson back to where he belongs as a solid 2 fill in RB. As for us, our LB corp is awful but I hear hawk isn't necessarily meshing with the 3-4 which is sorta why he's on the outs there. Bottom line though, Hawk was a stud at one time not long ago, and Edwards seemed to call a decent game plan with what he has to work with so I'd do this in a heartbeat.

Another trade I'd try to do straight up would be Lynch for Jones. Pretty sure GB wouldn't because they love him and he's Driver's replacement one day, but that's another I'd do without thinking, instant Improvement for us.

Finally a CRAZY idea but figured I'd spit it out anyhow. We give them Lynch and Nelson for Finley--I can dream right?

Hawk hasn't missed a game due to injury to date = upgrade over the POS.

If you believe, as NE states, Hawk is better than Davis, AJ would automatically become the best ILB on the roster.

Would I prefer a LT, or TE in exchange? Absolutely. If nothing is available there, though, you still make a move to use a strength to upgrade a weakness.

Well, I think it's the same GM that kept Flynn over Brohm, but I digress. Back then they needed a linebacker. Hawk was pretty much a consensus pick among the pundits. Ngata was a DT, which the Bills desperately needed at the time. (Instead they picked Whitner and McCargo, though luckily Kyle Williams has had a decent career so far to make up for it.)

I just don't think it's the right time to get rid of Lynch. As I've said, Jackson's hand is still a question, Spiller has played 1 NFL game and gained a whopping 6 yards on 7 carries, and Bell is a PSer who has never played a regular season game.

I'd rather get some stability at RB before dumping Lynch.

That is my point. Does he really make the team a lot better? I don't think so. He is an liability against a team that can throw the ball and wouldn't even be on the field.

I think an extra draft pick would make more sense if you were to trade Lynch. If they don't see him as part of the future they should cut their losses and move on, and a extra draft pick gives them an asset for the future.

I would do it. For one reason - Lynch will be gone at the end of the year (I believe) there's a market for him - so get something for him especially if it can in fact fill a need, and who knows what AJ can do once he's used to being in a scheme long enough.

I would rather trade for Desmond Bishop than A.J................

I'd rather trade for Bishop Desmond (Tutu), he won't get off the bench, but at least maybe then we'll finally get God on our side.

God's favorite team is New England, for reasons we all know. Followed by Chicago, he even let Jauron win for one year there.

That is my point. Does he really make the team a lot better? I don't think so. He is an liability against a team that can throw the ball and wouldn't even be on the field.

I think an extra draft pick would make more sense if you were to trade Lynch. If they don't see him as part of the future they should cut their losses and move on, and a extra draft pick gives them an asset for the future.I think we ranked 30th last year in run defense. We have playmakers in the secondary.

The Bills are not obligated to give away good players because the media says so. We aren't required to take everyone's washouts either.

Interesting read... basically says no trade is imminent but connects the dots between us and GB.

If it actually was possible, I would make the trade in a NY minute.

I don't wish to weaken the RB position but Lynch isn't here, long term and RB's are a dime a dozen.

As an Ohio St. fan, I can tell you Hawk is an absolute animal who never takes a play off, ala Spielman. He's a rare LB.

Yes I would in a hillbilly heartbeat and then sign Willie Parker

screw trading lynch for a LB. get a quality left tackle for Lynch and a 4th - get McNiel NOW!!!

This is the best post in this thread, and very spot on. As a Packer fan I can tell you this. Hawk plays the 'Buck'(or sometimes called jack) ILB in our base defense. His job is to hold containment so the other LB can shoot their gaps. What we've asked him to do,he's done well at it.

I don't want hawk until until after we've tried extensively to land McNiel. If we fail, then hawk can be a nice consolation prize.

If a trade happens with GB I doubt it will happen until after they play this weekend. I much prefer a pick(s) over AJ Hawk.
