View Full Version : Bradford looks like real deal

Many of the Guru's said THERE ARE NO FRANCHISE QB's in 2010 Draft. I know it is very early. But from the preseason and 1sdt game, Bradford looks very good. Wonder what it would have cost to move to 1st Overall to grab him.

Wait for Andrew Luck. If he comes out next year we better take him over Jake Locker who is inconsistent in college. If Luck stays take Gabe Carimi and take Luck next year when we are just as bad.

It would have cost more than we had to offer. They had him targeted and likely would have refused ANY offer.

Rivers, Rogers and Brees weren't suppose to be as good as they are as far as Gurus were concerned.

Right now Luck isn't in Bradford's league... he's got a lot of promise... but at the moment he's reminding me of a slightly further along version of Alex Smith. If he continues to develop well though, he could be the next Donovan McNabb.

Rivers, Rogers and Brees weren't suppose to be as good as they are as far as Gurus were concerned.

Rivers i wasn't sold on but i thought he was a 1st round talent… I thought he was better then Eli Manning… and remains convinced he is... I’m not sure what it is about Rivers but i remain on the fence with him even now (whether he’s a great qb or simply good).

Rodgers i missed completely... i think he's over-rated, his sacks issue isn't the line, it's the fact he has little to no pocket presence... but for all that he's an awesome QB throwing the ball (with Rodgers you just have to accept the fact he'll be sacked a lot)

Brees i knew was going to be great.. A lot were scared off by his small size... it wasn't his talent just his stature that was working against him. I thought in that draft he was hands down the best QB in the draft... which has turned out pretty much true. (i was never high on Vick as a qb, astounding speed aside… Vick was a weapon but not a starting QB)

Judging from last year Luck's not much better, they were both in the 50s in completion percentage.

Let's see how this season unfolds, we'll have a clearer picture in a few months.

I thought the talking heads agreed that Bradford was the man and that everyone else had issues.

I like Nix's statement on Rivers. He essentially said, "rivers won everywhere he was. you could jsut tell he was dedicated. it didn't matter what school he went to. You could tell that his ability to win and his desire to play the game meant he would be a good QB."

This is such a huge departure from "JP has a big arm in the combine." "We know nothing about QB's but Bill Walsh said on his death bed that trent was good."

I don't know much about the QB crop other than there is a lot of hype. I want the bills to select the guy who wins and who gets it. He can come from california, he can be a pretty boy, he can be arrogant, but the dude has to know how to win (and not just beating up on cupcake schools). He has to win some bowl games, he has to be a highschool champion. The guy has to really hate losing and fight to the end. We haven't had that QB in a long time.

And yes, the guy needs to be able to play in the winter and have an arm. it doesn't have to be an elite arm. it just needs to be able to get the job done.

I have Luck as my #1 guy but he still has a ton of growing to do. Locker is behind him and I want nothing to do with Ryan Mallet for the moment, though Ill re-evaluate after he starts SEC play.

Right now not many QB's are impressing this season which is a bad sign for us.

As for the topic of Bradford, he looked like a rookie, made some nice throws, made plenty of mistakes. One game is not nearly enough time to tell one way or another.

I said he was a low 1st-high 2nd round pick on my board, not a top pick overall. And I dont have him as my top QB, I have Luck there.

no you said he was not considered one of the elite QBs (regardless of where hed be taken in the draft), and now youre saying his behind Luck who is number 1....

His potential though has his value inflated, the only reason he is so high on my board is because of his potential. His play is yet to warrant spending a high pick on him.

Your confusing questions for potential.

There are plenty of questions about Bradford but it was well known his ceiling was basically hit. Could he transition that to the pro level was his biggest question.

Please don't make false accusations about me or my comments. They are well documented if you need to see them, like they are here;

these commnets about which QB we MUST take at this point crack me up..

I'm on board with any top QB, and this will sort itself out by the end of the season. In fact I'm following the Luck Locker and Mallett sweepstakes all seaosn long

as for Bradford... His accuracy is incredible. When I was researching QB's for lsast years draft it was clealry obvious how much control Bradford has with his arm... I knew he was the only real 1st rd worthy QB in last years draft, and it doesn't surprise me that he is doing well.

im not confusing what youve said about all these players in the past and what youre saying now thats for sure.....as far as Bradford im not going to get all anal and dig into what type of questions meant what...youre going down some weird rabbit hole to justify what you say

Then you're not reading what is published, I dont know what you're trying to get at, but Im accountable for what I write and if I was talking out of both sides of my mouth, it would have been pointed out a long time ago.

Does my opinion change on players? Of course it does as these kids who are 18, 19, 20, and 21 grow and mature and show new things your opinion has to change, which you know, and is the biggest frustration in doing what I do because people think your opinion isn't allowed to change even though it has to. Ryan Mallet is a great example of that so far this season.

Im not trying to justify anything, I dont have to do that, my work is out on the web for all to see, right, wrong, or indifferent. Ive been wrong before on players (DeSean Jackson) and I guarantee Ill be wrong again.

I love debating prospects and I love breaking down their potential with people who disagree (hell they are who lets me do what I do) but all I ask is that people not make false accusations. If you notice a difference and want me to clarify Ill happily do that and Ive admitted I was just wrong about a number of prospects in the past to people who email me all the time. It happens, such is life, but those people (not you or people on this site) who find some great enjoyment about proving their favorite "expert/guru/stay at home in mom's basement nerd" person wrong, are wasting their times, to be frank. We (and by that I mean people who do what I do part-time, full-time, professionally, amateur, and volunteer wise in any sports arena) are going to be wrong, its impossible to be perfect and that's the point that people at times fail to understand.

Opinions change, especially when the football games actually start. You know that as well as I do. Locker looked bad against BYU but good against Syracuse, just as Brantley has looked below average, Newton has looked like he has had a leash on him and Enderle got treated like a HS JV player by Nebraska.

Boards change weekly, they are supposed to be fluid.

[QUOTE=Ingtar33]Right now Luck isn't in Bradford's league... he's got a lot of promise... but at the moment he's reminding me of a slightly further along version of Alex Smith. If he continues to develop well though, he could be the next Donovan McNabb.

Andrew Luck is nothing like Alex Smith. Alex Smith played in a spread offense that Urban Meyer predicated that was him in the Shotgun all the time. Luck plays in a pro style system. I have watched a couple of Luck games and he can make every single throw in the book and has Quarterback smarts. You might not like that Luck only threw 50 something percent last year but he was a RS FRESHMEN in college while Jack Locker was a Junior last season. I have posted a youtube video and yes it is a Highlight reel of Luck's freshmen season but it is not to show off his good moments necessarily but to show you just how good he can be. There is twice in the video that just blows my mind. The first time is around the 28 second mark where he throws a frozen rope on a deep out 30 yards down the field. The 2nd time is where he rolls out and throws off his back foot from the 31 and throws a rope to the goaline for another Touchdown.

I liked Bradford a ton, thought he would be a very good QB as long as he can stay healthy. He still has to prove it, but I'm not surprised he looks good. I expect he will be good.

However, wondering if the Bills didn't trade up to get him is futile, because it wasn't going to happen. You might as well ask why they don't trade for Peyton Manning. The Rams were taking Bradford so the Bills never had a shot at him.

And JP Losman.

I have to agree, Bradford is the real deal. He took a team that was basically crapola and made it look like a decent team. Gotta say though, Arizona without Kurt Warner is not an offensive threat anylonger.

Huskies had been slapped with recruiting violations, they didn't have much talent and are still rebuilding that program. Also the main reason Locker went to Washington is he is a hometown boy...

Locker's freshman stats are trivial in this debate.

I'm keeping an eye on all the QB prizes but this crusade to pick one of these QB's over anbother at this junction is useless... It will sort itself out pretty clearly before the draft.

An NFL GM told @mortreport (http://twitter.com/mortreport) that Washington QB Jake Locker is a bigger, taller, right-handed version of Steve Young.

you clearly didn't bother to read anything i wrote... no where did i say anything about luck's 56% completion percentage... or compare him to locker. I said (at thsi moment) locker wasn't a 1st round QB, and that Luck was not ready for the NFL yet.

At the moment, Luck looks like Alex Smith... Alex Smith could and did make all of those throws as well. and Yes, Alex Smith played in a Spread/Double Option style urban Meyer Offense, and YES Stanford’s Offense is not a spread.

But at the moment he's about as far along (well slightly further along) then Alex Smith was his last year. He's about the same overall style of QB, and his game would translate about the same into the NFL at this moment (which is 2 weeks into his 2nd season of college ball).

Personally i think Luck will be a far better QB then Alex Smith in the league... but right now he's simply not ready for the NFL.

Setting this debate aside, Bradford looked fantastic for a 1st game start – rookie QB, behind a nightmarishly bad line. If he can survive working behind that mess of a line, he’ll probably turn into one hell of a pro QB.

The Completion percentage topic wasn't directed towards you it was directed towards whoever wrote that Luck is just as inconsistent as Locker and I pointed out that their % was the same despite Luck being a RS Fresh and Locker being a Junior. I shouldn't have said you before it because it does sound directed at you so I apologize for that

Many of the Guru's said THERE ARE NO FRANCHISE QB's in 2010 Draft. I know it is very early. But from the preseason and 1sdt game, Bradford looks very good. Wonder what it would have cost to move to 1st Overall to grab him.
I don't think anyone didn't think Bradford was going to be good. Where did you read that?

Wonder what it would have cost to move to 1st Overall to grab him. It doesn't really matter what the Guru's said, or what Bradford looks like right now. The Bills never had a chance at him anyway. So it kind of makes your point mute. JMO

I am also curious how Bradford is considered the "real deal". I didn't see the game and I am not flaming its a legit question. Some people after this game are making him out to be the next all pro reading through this thread. He threw 55 passes for 32 completions which looks good dont get me wrong but he only threw for 253 and had 1 TD and 3 INT's. I am just curious how the conclusion was drawn because he will have to do better in the TD/INT ratio.

I watched the game.

he showed fantastic anticipation (which is key to success), he felt presure and moved well in the pocket... he took what the defense offered him... and took chances down field.

he threw 55 passes... so he made a few bad decisions with the ball, and unfortunately for him, he didn't have Trent Edwards luck of DBs dropping them... he also showed astounding accuracy and touch.

No... sam bradford showed me a lot. assuming he can survive that o-line, he'll probably turn into something special. Had he even moderate pass protection he might have done a lot more.

Bradford looks dynamite; this kid might be better then Payton Manning was at the same point in his career; as he doesn't have an in his prime Marshal Faulk to throw to... or anyone really... and is just lighting it up.

You didn't miss the point.....why add the frivolous? Bleak attempt at humor? Sarcasm?

Raiders did pretty well with an old, broken down guy from Standford also. Wasn't great, but they won, a SuperBowl. The 49ers also had a successful Standford QB, from 1957 to 1973. Jim Plunkett and John Brodie respectively.

As for the Andrew Luck talk. Look, the guy had surgery on his throwing hand in the offseason. That should be a big warning sign that the guy may not be as good as he used to be.

One of my best friends is a HUGE oklahoma fan and a HUGE college football fan in general (which has led me to the same place lol). He has been raving about bradford for years. He kept telling me and all of our friends "He can be the next Petyon Manning, maybe even better." We all have had our doubts but after watching him play, I have to agree. He has the brain and the physical tools to accomplish it.

I hope that they get the offensive line worked out for him and get him a few good receivers. Although, he does make all these no name guys on his team look amazing...

Andrew Luck has been getting the same comparisons from what I have been hearing.
