INDIANAPOLIS – The whistle blew, practice ended and the cheers went up from everywhere.

School’s out for summer.

The Colts’ summer school session, that is.

The Colts ended their annual summer school session at the Union Federal Football Center Thursday afternoon, to the delight of more than 80 players who participated in the 14 on-field workout sessions over the last four weeks.

Colts veterans will be off for about six weeks before reconvening for training camp at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute.

“We’re feeling good and our bodies are feeling good,” Colts defensive end Chad Bratzke said. “By the time you get to the end of July, you’re kind of itching for it.”

Veterans are scheduled to report to training camp by 2 p.m. on July 27, with rookies participating in a three-day pre-camp on July 23-25.

“We talked about what we have to look forward to, and what this season is going to bring,” said Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy, who addressed the team for several minutes following Thursday’s final practice.

“I think that’s the big thing right now, looking forward, looking ahead and building something.”
