View Full Version : Brainstorming: Ideas for a Stadium Downtown

I know these threads are started almost monthly, but I figured we could just have a discussion of ideas from Billszone members. I know it seems like a monumental task to put a stadium downtown but I think its very possible.

I'd attach a large convention center to the stadium along with a hotel that would overlook the field. UB is starting to establish itself in the heart of downtown.. to further utilize a downtown stadium, UB could play it's football games there?

How about knocking down the marine drive projects?

There are docks for people who want to take their boat to the stadium, surface parking available. Obviously, a decently sized parking ramp would need to be constructed.

I'll put the ideas together in a day or two on photoshop unless someone wants to give it a whirl.

i'm anti new stadium. the one thing that is guaranteed is the average fan for buffalo. we show up. the corporations don't buy boxes. so why make them a stadium that they'll still hold the team hostage on and price the average guy who shows up out of seeing the team?

Exactly. With a new stadium come new COSTS. Season ticket holders that now have seats on the 50 YD line would be moved to the 20 & have the price of their ticket quadruple for the privilege of a seat that is 30 YDs worse. If a person is on the 20-30, they can expect to be moved to the end zone or nosebleeds while paying 4X more for the ticket.

Agreed. We have to follow the GB model and just keep up to date with renovations. A DT would put the team in serious debt and that's a VERY bad thing.

Will the downtown stadium be next to the Sabres sewer? They still haven't fixed that smell.
I would strongly suggest Pembroke off the Thruway and the Western NY Bills, aka New England Patriots. Get over the Buffalo name because you can't support a team. Regionalize and dump the Canada idea.

I don't think a new stadium is a good idea, but if one is built, I think between Buffalo & Rochester would be a good place.

I don't think the name needs to be changed however to regionalize it.

Neither can Rochester.

Don't get lippy, junior. You guys are only sending maybe 6-7k at most to the Ralph.

a new stadium is needed to stay relevant and to keep our team here in wny.

the new stadium deals of dallas and NY will hurt these teams in the long run.

i don't know why there hasn't been a story that's broke that says, "executive suites are only used for executives who could afford seats on their own but use a company's dime to pay for the suite."

In my mind this is as pathetic as bailed out firms CEOS still taking the lionshare of payments even though they lead the demise of the firm.

As long as the Bills and their acolytes would pay for it out of their own pockets, fine.

A $7,500 PSL per season ticket seat, and a $50 per ticket surcharge would build it. That way, only those who want it have to fork over the cash. There are plenty of folks who don't jump for joy to have their wallets raided and get taxed for a private enterprise that they don't give a rat's patoot about, just so a small segment of the population gets their yucks.

Forget the "tourist revenue" angle. The pols spout the same garbage here in CIN.

You dont build the stadium unless you guarantee the boxes are going to full every Sunday. Can anybody guarantee that?

Well why are the Bills having a hard time selling the suites at the Ralph? They are much cheaper than Suites at a new stadium would be.

I think a lot of that changes with a state of the art Dome in Niagara falls.. It owuld also be attractive to Canadian wealth and offers one heluva an excuse to take business clients to Niagara falls for an evening..

They would have to do a major renovation to the American side though.

I don't get the attraction of Niagara Falls in the Winter time. Now a baseball Stadium there in the Summer, hell yeah.

It's still a spectacular view for most of football season..., and

if your indoors it's still a spactacular view in the winter... on a mellow winter day it stil a spectacular view.

heck they hold Superbowls in Minnesota which has no views, Niagara falls has tourist attractions views and is a gateway to Canada which opens up even more opportunity that benefits both sides.

heck can you imagine a SB with a fieldgoal try towards the glass end of the new Dome and the camera right behind the kicker with the gola posts in view and right behind that view is Niagara falls all lit up.. it would be the best view in the NFL !

idk, when they light up the falls at night with all that snow and ice, i personally think it looks pretty sweet. with a stadium nearby and all the development on the canadian side, it would look even sweeter.

I am from Rochester and I find this statement hilarious.

Can't support a team? Last I checked the Sabres still played in Buffalo...

Buffalo and Rochester are both in the dumps, but Buffalo is 1 million times better, always has and always will be. Rochester isn't even a city.

Western NY Bills? wow is all I have to say to that...
