Given the following assumptions:

1) The Bills have a terrible front office/scouting system.
2) The Bills have a lack of talent.
3) The Bills have a sub-standard coaching staff.

If we suddenly had a competent owner, it seems that number 1 and 3 are things that could be solved relatively quickly. Clearly number 2 cannot. So how long, if numbers 1 and 3 were solved, would it take the team to accumulate enough good players to field a contending team?

2-3 years.

I say we should compete in years 1 and 2, and depending on how we look, playoffs should be expected in either in year 2 or year 3.

Right now, I only see 2) as a given.

Depends how good 1,3 are. If you get a Parcels type of Talent Evaluator in here, he may be able to turn us around in 1yr mostly by getting rid of bad players for good onces in FA & the Draft.

If we confine ourselves to only the draft, then it will obviously take longer but no great GM will take the FA option away from themselves. Only an inept organization would do so. Can you imagine this in any other arena of life. Can you picture IBM saying, we will not hire any top tier employees, we will only develop our own and hire only fresh graduates. Surely such an organization will be doomed to fail fairly quickly.

Friend, as it was said in your other thread, you need a better example of a corporation. IBM is one of the worst offenders of every stereotypical corporate numb skull, time-wasting, boat-missing, "beat it to death via committee and paperwork" organizations out there.

Hmmm. Now that you bring it up. The Bills do sort of resemble IBM. Good marketing keeps people coming back to a lumbering, top-heavy organization.

That's what I fear as well. So given that 1 and 3 aren't gonna get fixed any time soon - it's gonna be a heck of a long time.

If we suddenly had a competent owner A competent owner would never put a team in Buffalo. So, if the Bills had a competent owner, pigs would fly and Hades would freeze over.
