Kerry Collins tried it the other way, seeking the attention, notoriety, the high life. It just didn't work. In fact, it nearly ended his career before it got rolling.
So it's no big deal when those never-ending Internet lists of "The Top 10 NFL Quarterbacks" either sneak him in at No. 9, No. 10, or completely leave him out. He shrugs his shoulders when asked why he's often omitted from discussions of the league's best, where the names of Brett Favre, Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, Peyton Manning, and even Chad Pennington always surface.
Collins has yet to crack that elite, although his numbers beg otherwise. And you know what? He doesn't care. Really. The quarterback of the Giants, a successful one with big passing numbers playing in the media capital of the world, really does not mind that the fame eludes him....
