George Edwards and his non-blitzing bend AND break defense are absolutely killing this team. Yeah, the offense has their problems but DAMN, I have never seen a professional football team with a defense like this. Stopping the run has been absolutely embarrassing. I know the talent isn't the greatest but I think the biggest problem right now is the scheme. Is it pulled from a ****ing hat???????
Seriously? 4/5 teams have dropped 34+ points???

I've been a fan since 1963.
This isn't the worst team I've seen, it is the least competitive team.
When you know that the other team will convert a third and twelve, prior to the snap, and they run the exact play you predict, and get the first down, you have major problems.
This is a horrible team.

this has to be the nicest 3-4 defense in the league. Add that Kelsay is automatically blocked and we are playing 11 on 10.Buy land in AK now. In ten years due to global warming, it will be the new tropical paradise, minus the tropics

Re: Seriously? 4/5 teams have dropped 34+ points???
If we are going to stand off as much as we did on 2nd and long, 3rd and long, then we may as well go back to the 4-3.
While we obviously don't have the right blend of personnel atm, Edwards seems totally disinclined to change anything around to try and get any pressure at all.
Hardly a blitz gets called, which wouldn't be an issue if we actually were getting pressure, or stopping the run, but as we are doing neither, why we don't occasionally try something different, completely bewilders me.
We aren't stopping the run or the pass atm, so we may as well throw the kitchen sink at them occasionally, at least, to see if we can't get something happening.
I wonder if too much emphasis is being placed on getting everything 'just so' in the base schemes, before throwing anything else out there. If it is the case, I believe it's a mistake, as the personnel aren't there to do that well enough.

Re: Seriously? 4/5 teams have dropped 34+ points???
The offense isn't that bad. Put that backup from Jacksonville on the bench early on and we'd have put up more than 10 and 7 points the first two weeks of the season (respectively). Since taking Edwards out, we've scored 30 on the Pats*, 14 on the Jets, and now 26 on the Jaguars.
Progress.
EDIT: I was slightly derailed, and I've had a few. My point was that if we have any form of a defense, we're putting up winning team numbers.Last edited by ServoBillieves; 10-10-2010, 04:13 PM.Bye Bye Brady...

Re: Seriously? 4/5 teams have dropped 34+ points???
It's officially the worst defense in franchise history through the first 5 games of a season. Switching to a 3/4 and not getting the proper players in the off season to play it has turned into disaster at this point. It will probably be the biggest blunder made by this team in decades. They should have stayed with the 4-3 and made the transition to a 3-4 a slower process. JMOLast edited by Extremebillsfan247; 10-10-2010, 05:22 PM.

They played more 4-3 today, by design, fwiw, to try to slow down the rushing game.
Doesn't matter what set we're in, as long as we keep putting **** on the field instead of LBers we're going to suck.YardRat Wall of Fame
