HAMILTON, Ontario -- Rickard Wallin and Stephane Veilleux scored as the Houston Aeros won the Calder Cup with a 3-0 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs in Game 7 on Thursday night.
Johan Holmqvist won chosen as the playoff MVP award after recording his first shutout of the postseason. The Aeros, the Minnesota Wild's top minor-league affiliate, won their first American Hockey League championship in the team's second season.
Clinging to a 2-0 in the third period, Holmqvist made a nice toe save on Bulldogs defenseman Ron Hainsey and later stopped Raffi Torres in close.
Rastislav Pavlikovsky made it 3-0 with a power-play goal at 14:38 of the third period.
An AHL record crowd of 17,428 was in attendance.
