    Speedy Cason Looking For Chance

IRVING - Aveion Cason had little say in becoming a Dallas Cowboy. But now that he's here, this lightning-quick running back could have a big say in what becomes of him.

Assuming that he actually finds a role with the club.

Acquired as part of a draft day trade that sent the Detroit Lions one of the Cowboys' 2003 seventh-round draft picks, Cason's fate was in the hands of others at that point. But now reunited with Cowboys offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon, his former position coach in Detroit, Cason has a new lease on his NFL career with the Cowboys.

Remember, the team no longer has Emmitt Smith to rely on at running back, having released the 14th-year veteran in February. The Cowboys did not address the loss in free agency or the draft, providing a prime opportunity for a young back like Cason to make his mark.

"I'm really enjoying it here," said Cason, 5-10, 204 pounds. "I feel like this is the (best) situation and opportunity for me. I'm going to come in here and do what they expect me to do."
