View Full Version : Glazer: 2-sources say Merriman to Bills

Coach Sal

Shocker: hearing Bills strongly leaning toward claiming Merriman. Only way it doesn't happen is if they change their minds last minute

If Bills put in the claim they get him bc of waiver order. Nothing official yet but 2 sources say they are doing it. See if they follow thru

Not "very" good.

But better than what we currently have.

again, hes a prototypical 3-4 OLB who can get to the QB...lets hope if we get him he performs...and could maybe teach Maybin a thing or 2....or at least give him some roids lol

Yes.. it's not cheating unless you get caught and in all seriousness this might be the only thing that could make Maybin into a decent player

He can hook Maybin up with some 'roids
or some pass rush moves. God knows no one else on the roster has any moves to share with Maybin.

this makes to much sense for it to happen...i would love the move he is only 26 and u can build a d around this kid just like SD did

Remember Nix had a big part in them taking him in SD

Also as for the steriods...name a player in the NFL not on the juice?

This would show the fan base we have a plan and this would energize the team as well he is a leader and we need one

i say sign him long term maybe a 3yr deal if this happens dont just rent him

As I said in another thread, he has had a lot of injuries. If he can stay healthy there is no reason he can't go back to being a very good LB. This would bring a much needed infusion of attitude to the team as well.

All of them aren't on "the juice". There are drug tests that are stopping that. I believe the only thing that anyone can be on is HGH because it is hard to test for.

I'm not usually big on these kind of moves, but given that we have probably the worst linebacking corps in football, I can't really see a downside.

I'd be very happy with this move. It might finally give us some toughness in our LB corps.

Roids are fairly easy to beat a test on. They know when they are going to get tested so they can cycle off in plenty of time.

Glazer is better than Shefter by a mile. Thing is Glazer only says something is going to happen when he is confident in his source. Shefter just spouts off half the time about educated guesses.

Yes and No, Glazer only reports things about teams he has contacts within (i.e. players he trains) he is very localized to those teams (GB, NYG, etc.) notice he doesnt tweet much about other teams.

Schefter is right about 70% of the time on Twitter.

I actually prefer Aaron Wilson from NFP, he Ravens localized but he is almost always right, but he's rarely if ever first.

Now, I think Merriman has ahd a bad run of injuries and could still be good again. It's not clear if that WILL happen but is worth taking a chance on.

However.....

I will say this is ONCE AGAIN, another move by the Bills that shows a lack of ability to come up with a plan and stick with it.

Merriman is proven as a 3-4 OLB pass rusher. The Bills wanted to run the 3-4, but had horrible personnel for it that went almost totally un-addressed in the offseason. Predicatably, they flat out sucked at it. So they panic, and decide they are going back the the 4-3 6 games into the season. Merriman becomes available, and is a protoypical 3-4 OLB, and they are going to claim him and what? Play him as a 4-3 OLB? DE? or are we back to trying a 3-4?

Does this team have ANY idea how to either a- pick a scheme and find players to fill it or b- pick a scheme that works for the players you have?

jesus.

so how does this work? do we just get him for 8 more games? do we have to sign him first? If he plays again this year, he plays for Buffalo, we own his rights for the rest of this year, then he becomes a UFA

This is assuming the Bills have claimed him, that I do not know of.. Seems Glazer is the only one privvy to it.

That doesn't have to be the case. Why would we extend him when he hasn't played all season. First lets see what he has left in the tank before doing something stupid.

I don't think they would have that option anyways. Claims are simply put it and the rest of the chips fall from there.

A few things Graves. One, we'd have him in house to see exactly how well he's recovered and how useful he could be in the future. Second, we have a great opportunity to sell the aspect the Bills (via Buddy) want him to be reborn here. Third, if he lights it up and wants to go to greener pastures, we can get a comp pick for the effort.

Low risk, high reward, in my opinion.

Schefter says it is official:

"Buffalo has claimed LB Shawne Merriman. He has five days to report to Buffalo; plans to for now. He is not expected to play Sunday vs. Chic."

BuffaloBeliever
11-03-2010, 02:48 PM
This sends the signal that we're committed to keep the 3-4 system intact defensively if people doubted about that given our struggles adjusting to the system as Merriman is purely a 3-4 OLB. This is a low-risk, high-reward kind of move by Buddy as we either get a washed up player on a one-year deal at a very modest salary considering his talent level or we get a true sparkle to our defense and a guy that can consistently get to the QB and bring necessary attitude to this sloppy defense. Lights Out is a huge, extremely tough and physical LB who will make it far more interesting to watch this awful Bills defense.

Good move by Buddy Nix

Congrats on getting Merriman. This is the bold type of move a winless team has to make to try and win a game. Merriman may not have much left in the tank, but this is a risk worth taking.

Merriman had 27 career sacks before he turned 23. Kind of makes me reconsider the whole "Maybin is still young" argument.

TheBrownBear
11-03-2010, 03:11 PM
no real risk in claiming him. But I think he's through and I don't foresee him on the roster next season.

ChristopherWalken
11-03-2010, 03:13 PM
Adding Merriman could also cover-up the Kelsay contract extension....if they are now feeling rather silly about making that mistake.

If Merriman quickly catches on to the Bills defensive scheme, and I see no reason why he couldn't, the Bills would quickly have an excuse to bench Kelsay.

don137
11-03-2010, 06:49 PM
Worse case scenerio he sucks as bad as the current LB core however teaches the young players.
Best case scenerio he plays very well and contributes significantly to this defense. He signs somewhere else in the off season for big money and the Bills gets draft compensation for losing a free agent.
