Vanek should have shot it

True.

But at least we're not paying them 100 million for the next decade and a half.

Maybe Vanek should have shot it, but had he missed, he would have been vilified. Of course he made a really nice play and shoveled it over to Roy for an easy tap in and he screwed it up, but sure, it's all Vanek's fault.

I hope that's not directed at me because I blamed both equally.

Personally, I think a guy making $6.5 million needs to shoot and bury that puck on that play EVERY time. But he's lost all his confidence so he ditched it on Roy, who also should make that play EVERY time.

Roy is something like 7thin the NHL in goal scoring.

Yeesh.

There are about 15-20 Sabres I'd rather bash than Roy this season. He's one of the few that has actually shown up and played some hockey.

And for the record - Roy is tied for 5th in the NHL in points with 18 in 17 games.

Trade him now, his value couldn't be any higher!

The only reason Roy is scoring so good is because every time I see him make one of his stupid passes into traffic or pealing away when he sees contact, I criticize him. Everyone knows what happens then.

He made a beautiful play getting around the sliding defenseman and put a perfect pass over to Roy. Sure he could have tried to bury that puck, but there was an open guy right on the doorstep.

and btw, maybe Vanek would be given the benefit of the doubt on this play if he had been playing well this season instead of sucking ass.

Like you did with Roy?

Don't BS us - he could have had 40 goals by now and you still would have *****ed about the play.

I usually don't agree with Op, but that play is hard to defend. That was another point in the standings. They need to bury that.

Was it, or was it not, a play he should have made? This isn't about me.

Yes.

My comment was more directed towards you saying that you might have given Vanek a break. Which is BS.

And, like RS said, there are a number of players (maybe all of them) I would knock before Roy who has been the best player this season by a wide margin.

I don't disagree and I'm not blaming Roy for this season's debacle, but that's still a play he and Vanek need to make. It was a 2-on-1 that basically turned into a 2-on-0 after Vanek got by the defender. Skill players like Roy and Vanek have the upper hand in that situation and should finish every time.

I'm sure they're both wiping away their tears with fresh crispy hundred dollar bills.
