Jags' Brackens has another surgery

Jaguars defensive end Tony Brackens was back in the hospital Sunday, this time to remove his appendix.

The surgery went well and he will go through follow-up testing to determine his ability to return to full activity, according to the Jaguars.

It wasn't an on-field setback, however. Brackens has not been able to take part in any of the offseason conditioning programs because he is still recovering from microfracture surgery performed on his left knee in November. He was not expected to begin practicing until at least July....

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Tony Brackens won't be at training camp when it opens tomorrow.

It's a result complicated knee surgery last year and an appendectomy he had earlier this summer.

Brackens is the team's all-time sack leader with 49. He reworked his contract for significantly less money in the offseason in hopes of coming back and proving he can still play....

Jaguars defensive end Tony Brackens moved another step closer to the possible end of his NFL playing career yesterday.

Brackens, the Jaguars' all-time leader in sacks, was placed on the "active/physically unable to perform" list because he has not recovered fully from knee surgery and a recent appendectomy.

The move came the same day the Jaguars reported for training camp at Alltel Stadium and gives the team at least five weeks to decide Brackens' career with Jacksonville.

If Brackens, 29, still is on the active/PUP list when final cuts for the regular season are made Aug. 31, the Jaguars must activate him, release him or move Brackens to the "reserve/physically unable to perform" list.
