    1986

Anyone else reminded of 1986 when you watch this team?

    - "visibly" improving in first year under retread coach
    - new QB with toughness and leadership ability who seems to be sparking the offense
    - bad, but improving young defense
    - late round no-name receiver emerging as a star (who gets a lot of his yards as yac too)
    - lots of close losses (i.e. "better than their record" of 4-12)

The nice thing about the comparison is we seem to have managed to go from 1984 to 1986 in just a span of 11 games in one season this time.

Agreed, but you have to admit that for this team, this year....he is a good fit. He has made watching this team at least semi-enjoyable.

This team does not have the pieces that the 1986 team had, however, I can agree with the premise.
