Buffalo Bills rookie outside linebacker Antonio Coleman has become the 12th player to land on the Injured Reserve list this season. Chan Gailey announced Monday afternoon that Coleman would miss the rest of the season with a knee injury suffered in the first quarter Sunday at Minnesota, but the injury will not require surgery.
Gailey also said that while offensive linemen Geoff Hangartner and Kraig Urbik are already ruled out of this Sunday’s game against Cleveland with knee injuries, neither has yet been ruled out to return again this season.
The Bills I.R. may get more company soon. Terrence McGee said he plans on returning to practice on Wednesday but even he doesn’t even know if he’ll be able to play again. Shawn Nelson has missed several weeks while battling an assortment of ailments, including migraines, and the Bills now have four healthy tight ends already on the active roster with the additions of Mark Caussin and Scott Chandler late last week. After the team figures out its injury situation Gailey is sure to make a move to ensure five tight ends aren’t occupying a roster spot.
Plus, while neither Hangartner nor Urbik are officially done for the season, it’s unlikely either will see the field again.
Eric Wood will resume the center role if he can come back from his leg injury this week that’s forced him to miss two straight games. If not, Andy Levitre, will start at center for the first time in his football career.
One thing is for sure; the Bills will definitely be adding offensive linemen to the active roster this week, and it’s probably going to be more than one.
