View Full Version : Does Arthur Moats factor in as our longterm starting OLB?

A 6th round rookie who seems to be hitting his stride the past two games.

Is it possible that with another season under his belt, this kid could be an excellent player/starter for us?

I like his upside and I like how he has progressed as the season has went on.

Looks purely like a pass rusher to me. I don't really see him against the run or in coverage. Not saying that's bad, but he looks like a one-dimensional player. Hopefully he turns into a monster at getting to the QB, we won't need him to do anything else. I'd be happy with a solid pass rushing specialist, at least to make us forget Maybin.

He's playing better as the season progresses, and starting to show a knack for getting to the QB.

The guy is going to be a force in the next few years, especially against the pass. I'm excited about him.

Definitely. Someone should look up his pressures, he may not have the sacks, but he brings decent heat off the edge. It's not like we have anyone else right now, or in the very short term.

hes literally a clone as far as size speed and style of james harrison... it took harrison a few years, i think if moats gets a little stronger he could be really good... well see....

Can't wait to bump some of those "Moats sucks" threads from earlier this year.

So basically he's everything Aaron Maybin was supposed to be-- for a lot lower price!

I'll take it. This team still needs a lot of help at LB but you can pencil in Moats as a potential player of the future.

I like his upside and I like how he has progressed as the season has went on.I will say it like this. He's signed for many more years, he's getting better, but isn't a stud yet. Can he be part of the equation long term? he's going to be on the team, so we will see. Should we consider this spot filled and not look to get significantly better? Absolutely not. Not on a 3 win team. Besides, they typically get rotated at some frequency, and we can always use other quality guys.

For a FCS prospect, his development is rather impressive.

Moats did.
I could have sworn that was Scott hitting Delhomme's arm on the McKelvin INT. Moats forced the fumble that the refs overturned.

I'm happy he's played alright the past few weeks and hope he improves but calm down now with some expectations. We have people trying to compare him to James Harrison because he made a couple plays over the past couple weeks.

How does he compare to Harrison? Because he was a low pick in the draft? A couple plays doesn't warrant these types of comparisons.

Could he be? It's possible. Anything is possible. It's just as possible that he won't be anything more then a backup or average starter also. He is far from Harrison or a top LB at this point.

Yes. He dominated the CAA at James Madison Unversity. Fast, tough, smart. He' the next London Fletcher, with wheels.

Too early to say for certain. He's going to be in the conversation since he's pretty athletic and plays with passion. He is still in the process of learning a new position for him. There are areas where he has shortcomings as others have noted. He may be able to overcome those issues and become an excellent all around player. But then there are no guarantees.

I just remember, there were many many draft prognosticators saying Moats was the steal of the draft.

Wow, I didn't hear that, that's awesome. You don't have any links to that do you? Probably just heard it on the TV?

Daniel Jeremiah's, who's now a scout with the Eagles thought he was a steal in the 6th, couple of other guys felt that way as well. Remember his comments because of the great job he did leading up to the draft. Comment was made on his twitter, deleted his account since joining the Eagles.

Moats did.

Just a side note, Not only did Moats force that fumble, he beat Pro Bowl, top 5 pick, LT Joe Thomas to do it!

Maybin was awesome yesterday. I think I actually saw him make an impact play on a bull rush even though pressure from the other side got there first.

Progress baby!

No matter what we have to draft bpa and if there is a stud OLB there then take him. I can not stand drafting for need.

Like you said though he is getting better and maybe in time he does become a good player, but it is still to early at this point.

Moats is a pure pass rusher. This is what he did in college and I think he is just now adjusting to the speed and strength of the NFL. Beating Joe Thomas is no easy task and he was able to generate some pressure yesterday.

I like this kid and he can turn out to be a special OLB.

Moats looks good. I will not say he is the next (insert any established, or all time great LB'er here.)

The best part about all of the draft discussion is...we don't have to draft a OLB, and replace Moats. Whether we go 3-4 or 4-3, we use 2 OLB's!! Isn't that awesome!!

I don't think we are scrapping the 3-4, so the same goes for Poz...He isn't the worst ILB in the league, and if we happen to draft one, or sign a FA...they both get to play!!!

Probably the dumbest thing that is regularly posted is the idea of we only get to have one player at each position. It is ridiculous. Moats has been looking decent, but he didn't have many tackles, which, I know, aren't important...until nobody makes them. We can keep Moats and draft/sign guys and keep the best and get rid of the rest. That sounds like a good philosophy.

Corey was very high on Moats as was I. One of my favorite picks of the ones we made last year.
