Bucs, Johnson put acrimony behind them

First he got the bling-bling and now veteran quarterback Brad Johnson, who piloted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to their first Super Bowl championship last season, has the cha-ching to go along with it.

League and team sources confirmed to ESPN.com that the Bucs have signed Johnson to a one-year contract extension which, added to his existing contract, means the quarterback is bound to the Bucs through the 2006 season. The extension provides Tampa Bay some much-needed salary cap room and dramatically boosts Johnson's compensation.

Over the next four years, Johnson is now scheduled to earn $25.05 million. He received a signing bonus of $6 million for the extension and, in terms of so-called "new money," he will realize an additional $8.795 million. Johnson was due about $16.255 million over the three years that were remaining on his contract before the extension.
