Jets get ready for playoffs with game vs. Bills

The storyline
The Jets essentially backed into the playoffs for the second straight year. They need a little something to feel good about right now.
Why you should watch
Ryan Fitzpatrick (http://www.nfl.com/players/ryanfitzpatrick/profile?id=FIT792915) better emerge from his funk and give the Bills' brass a decent final impression from 2010. Can you believe I picked C.J. Spiller (http://www.nfl.com/players/c.j.spiller/profile?id=SPI347627) as my preseason AFC Rookie of The Year? What the hell was I thinking? Eh, maybe he shows up today.
Did you know?
Bills wide receiver Steve Johnson needs two receiving touchdowns to establish a new franchise record. ... Buffalo's Chris Kelsay (http://www.nfl.com/players/chriskelsay/profile?id=KEL776564) has five career sacks against the Jets. ... Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson (http://www.nfl.com/players/ladainiantomlinson/profile?id=TOM683150) has six rushing touchdowns in six games against the Bills. ... New York's Brad Smith ranks second in the NFL with a 28.6-yard kickoff return average.

In knowing how important the next draft is for Buffalo, today's game will be an easy football game to watch, kind of a win win situation.

It is not within my DNA to root against the Bills. However, I think there is a loophole where I don't have to root for the Bills.

Therefore, I will abstain from watching the game and just pretend it isn't happening.

Fitz warmup over

Ryan Fitzpatrick has finished his warmup to test his injured right knee.

Fitzpatrick looked okay dropping straight back to pass, but when it came to turning to his right to deliver a hand-off behind him Fitzpatrick appeared to be laboring.

Rolling out was also an exercise that wasn’t easy for Fitz.

At the close of his warmup he had a five minute conversation with the athletic training staff and afterwards left the field with his head down.

Read into the body language what you will, but we’ll have the official inactive list for today’s game at approximately 11:45 am.

QBs out for warmups

With the full roster now at the stadium and in the locker room players are starting to make their way to the field for early warm ups.

The quarterbacks are out warming up, but at this point it’s just Brian Brohm throwing, with Levi Brown close by. No sign of Ryan Fitzpatrick, who warmed up earlier.

The site would do alot better with a winning team. Some of us don't want to waste Sundays on a 4-12 team so getting one of the top picks in the draft is pretty significant. Ask Atlanta.

No it doesn't. Fitz was horrible last week. And hasn't been that good over the last few weeks. What this game proves to me is that we need run defense very badly. We also need to draft a QB of the future and a RT.

Our blocking scheme/design today is ****. We have the front side TE in 4 wide sets, trying to block the backside blitz, it's futile. Jets keep blitzing backside, we keep the TE/RB front side, only to have him run backside to try and chip. Foolish and makes no sense.

rutroh if brown leads a TD drive ...uh nevermind

Michael82
01-02-2011, 02:40 PM
Why is the Raider's game relevant?

Here's why....

Buffalo (4-11) enters today's action No.‚4 in the draft order, behind Carolina (2-13), Denver (4-11) and Cincinnati (4-11).

The tiebreaker for the draft order is strength of schedule. The team with the easier schedule, in case of a tie, picks sooner.

Denver plays host to San Diego. Cincinnati plays host to Baltimore.
Here is the strength of schedule for the three four-win teams: Denver (.504), Cincinnati (.579), Buffalo (.583). The only way Denver would pick later than the Bills or Bengals would be to beat San Diego and finish with a better record. Buffalo's foes have won one more game than Cincinnati's.

So the Bills' path to the No. 2 pick goes like this: Denver beats San Diego; and either Cincinnati beats Baltimore or the Bengals lose to the Ravens while Indianapolis beats Tennessee, Jacksonville loses to Houston and Kansas City loses to Oakland. A Bengals loss coupled with those other results would give the Bills and Bengals a strength-of-schedule tie and force a coin flip to decide who gets the earlier pick.

My argument, all along, was that we deserved to see what we had, and it was foolish to sit him on the bench without knowing what we have.

Now, we do. Another QB that manages to make his offensive line look bad. This is clearly not the same player that dominated at the high school and college levels. He needs some time in the arena leagues or something to get his game back.

Yes, his line has failed him, as have his wide receivers and defense. However, good QBs find ways to win and succeed-- at least produce something. Brian Brohm does not do that.

psubills62

Denver's SOS is far too weak for us to pass them. We'd need Denver to win to pass them.
