Look what having a real QB can do for you

Look at Aaron Rodgers. The Packers have an average running game, slightly above average receivers, decent cover defense, good pass rush. But it all starts with a great QB. Having Rodgers making great decisions and great throws, the opposing defense has to respect the pass then the run opens up. Then they'll have to respect the run then Rodgers scores on them and takes a big lead. With a big lead the defense can gamble with pass rush and jumping the route for INTs.

It all starts with the QB.

I only wish we could have a real QB too.

No doubt, Aaron Rogers was off the hook. Still can't believe that bone-headed throw by Matt Ryan to end the 1st half. Atlanta was not nearly the same after that play.

You do know of course that he sat behind Brett Favre for something like 3 years before he got his shot right? No QB that comes here will have that kind of time to learn the game at the pro level.

Green Bay and Pittsburgh are 1 and 2 points allowed for 2010 season.

Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco are supposed to be first-round 'franchise' QB's also.

          Just sayin'...

Re: Look what having a real QB can do for you

I will agree that Rogers is awesome...but to call their receivers "slightly above average," is not doing them justice, and their defense is one of the best in the league. The catches the WRs were making tonight are nothing like you are going to see out of our guys...our guys drop balls that they should have, not make fantastic catches on ones they shouldn't. The only receiver that was making very good, athletic catches last year was Roscoe, and he is going to have to, in order to compensate for his size.

Jones is probably leaving this off-season because he is going to command a big pay day, and will, more than likely, be more than GB is willing to pay for their third WR.

It would be amazing to have slightly above average WR's like them. It would also be super to view a guy like Al Harris expendable in the middle of the year, because we had drafted some really good secondary guys, and didn't need his former All-Pro ass anymore.

So, the argument has been made that Rodgers sat for 3 years, and the argument can be made that they are a very complete team, minus a big named running attack, with Grant out, but their run game is still not bad.

I think the argument could be made that Green Bay is a true example of how to build a team, as they have built mainly through the draft, but were not afraid to sign a guy if he was going to make a difference, ie Woodson.

Green Bay also doesn't let all of the guys that they draft walk at the end of their rookie contracts. That may have to do with the fact that they are not constantly changing regimes, and systems, or maybe there is something to the fact that players truly develop and turn into real NFL talent after a few years in the league.

Hopefully the Gailey/Nix combination can stick for a while, and we can learn this kind of consistency. Rodgers is in his 6th year in that system. We haven't had a system for 6 years over the last decade and a half, let alone the the same skill position players learning how to execute it at the level Rodgers has learned that offense.

Everybody knows a lot about Fitz, but give that dude 6 years in an offense, with many of the same players, and I think we would be a lot better than many would imagine, assuming we get the defense to go with it.

He also sat under Brett Favre for 3 years, so he wasn't a straight-out-of-school savior, he had time to learn and study the system so by the time he was called upon, he was more than ready.

the game rodgers had 2night was literally a out of body experience. thats hands down the best playoff performance by a qb i have ever seen. it was almost perfect. they didnt punt one time.

I don't disagree, but who is this real QB and how do we get him?

That's been the problem all along.

you guys have to understand that great qbs come along probably once every 30 years for a franchise... even a great franchise like dallas only had 2, pittsburgh has only had 2, buffalo 1, san fran 2.... its very very hard to find a qb like brady, or rodgers. when you do, you win, its that simple.

They also have a phenomenal defense, receivers who love to get open, receivers who can make spectacular catches, a great rushing scheme (even without great running backs), excellent play calling, Clay Matthews, a solid O-Line, B.J. Raji, great secondary...

A QB may change many things, but Clay Matthews changes games. 15 picks behind Aaron Maybin.

Sorry, a bad day for sports IMO, bitter...

Pittsburgh has had 20 division titles since 1970- on average, that means they win their division every other year. So, either they've had more franchise QB's than you are giving them credit for, or there are other factors besides franchise QB's that lead to success.

If you give Fitzpatrick another 6 years, he'll be close to retirement.

I'm sorry....but how can you compare the two? Fitzpatrick is nowhere near as good as Rodgers and it doesn't matter whether he's been in the same system for 6 years or not. He's not that good of a QB and will never take us to the promised land. You're fooling yourself if you think he can.

that is the exception, not the rule, especially since now we are in a passing league. im sorry man, but qb is by far and away the most important factor.

Offensively, it is a passing league.

League wide, this is a defensive league.

You solidify a defense, and you get a good front 7 with a stud in the secondary and 3 suitable fill ins for corner/opposite safety, and you're golden.
