DB, who are you most intrigued about seeing out there.

Can't narrow it down to just one player but Ill give you a list of things I wanna see;
1. Pat Devlin should be the best QB there, the QB talent to me is poor and I think he needs to stand out after a so-so FCS title game.

2. Nathan Enderle (QB-Idaho) had to have a big week. He's a physical specimen with a good arm but he struggled badly this year and needs to prove something here.

3. I wanna see what some of the mid-late round CB's can do in this game, specifically Brandyn Thompson (Boise St), Justin Rogers (Richmond), Cortez Allen (Citadel), and Demarcus Van Dyke (Miami).

4. I wanna see Marvin Austin play, he came into the game in shape today showing up at 6'2, 312. After sitting out all year he needs a huge week. He may be a 3-4 DE candidate.

5. I wanna see a few of the lineman like Terrell McClain (DT-USF), Martin Parker (DT-Richmond), and Beau Warren (OC-VT).

6. I really like the WR's in this game Cecil Shorts III (Mount Union), OJ Murdock (Ft. Hays St), Aldrick Robinson (SMU), Armon Binss (Cincy), Jeff Maehl (Oregon).

7. Some other random players Im watching;
OT Joseph Barksdale-LSU
OT Jah Reid-UCF
DE Bruce Miller-UCF
OG David Arkin-Missouri St.
QB Ricky Dobbs-Navy
LB Akeem Dent-UGA
SS Eric Gordon-Mich St
RB Evan Royster-Penn St

8. A sleeper prospect who I think could wow is TE Julius Thomas (Portland St).

Devlin and Enderle, the two qb's you told me that were gonna be drafted before Mallett. We'll see but I highly doubt it.

Does Devlin have a good arm? Can he make all the throws easily? Good velocity with a tight spiral?

I've been hearing different things as far as Devlin's arm goes. I know he's quick to go through progressions and is accurate but what bout his arm? Can he survive the swirling winds of Buffalo in the winter? Also, does anybody (DB or Era) think that because he sometimes goes through progressions to quickly to let routes develop?

That in itself is laughable.

One plays in the SEC, enough said.

Re-do your rankings.

Chris Hairston, Clemson, 6' 6", 333 lbs, 34 3/4 inch arms, 9 1/8 hands. Nice!

I like him a lot as a 4th round RT.

Before the season mine would have went like this, Locker, Mallett, Luck.

I'd say that was much closer then having Enderle and Devlin ahead of Mallett.

I think you have Buffalo Bills syndrome, the "we are smarter then you" type of pick. Sometimes the answer is right in front of you.

That's a lovely opinion you have but it has nothing to do with Shrine Game. Stay on topic or start another thread.

Anyone know why Matthews didn't show up? If he just didn't respond without a good reason, I can't imagine that would look good for his NFL prospects.

Really stupid move by Matthews not to show up or even respond to the invite.

DraftBoy
01-18-2011, 10:27 AM
Story on Matthews Ive head is that he is staying in Columbia to train and complete his degree early. He thought that because he got an invite if he didnt respond they wouldnt count him. So that's the story there.

Early reports from this mornings practice are that DT's Marvin Austin, Terrell McClain, and Martin Parker are impressive. Austin particularly is owning it. Practice concludes at 12:30 so expect lots of tweets and updates after that.

Anyway, it's unfortunate that Devlin hasn't looked good. Have to see what happens in the future practices and in the game.

Can you tell us more about Marvin Austin? I don't know who that is.

Sure;

Former #1 recruit in country out of the DC/Baltimore area.

Big DT at 6'2, 310 lbs.

Is a good penetrator who fires off the ball well, but can hold up at the POA. Extremely strong and dominant when he wants to be. Really powerful upperbody where he will literally throw blockers around.

116 career tackles, 17 for loss, and 10 sacks.

Did not play at all this past season due to being ruled ineligible by NCAA for getting improper benefits from an agent. He did remain at UNC though attended class and worked out.

What round is he projected to go in?

After sitting out a year his stock is extremely fluid, right now Id say rd 3-5 but with a strong Shrine Game he could get an Sr. Bowl invite and if he performs well again he could move up. He has 1st Round talent.

Thanks for posting all those reports, DB.

It's amazing to me how different those reports can be. A couple of the sites seem to think Devlin had an awful week, while some think he did well. Another couple don't like how Barksdale did, others write that he was decent.

Only had time to watch the first half, Im watching the rest of the game on Tuesday night. My thoughts though;
1st Half Thoughts;
QB Pat Devlin-Looked good dropping from OC, very smooth and was effective selling the drop on draw plays. Threw a beautiful seam route to his TE, but was slow to release on PA rollout that could of gone for a TD to Perry Baker.
QB Nathan Enderle-Poor game though throw to Julius Thomas for TD was beautiful read and toss. Strong arm, but does not see the whole field at all.
QB Ricky Dobbs-Solid arm, but inaccurate due to sight issues. Runs hard and elusive.
RB Alex Greene-Fumbeled on first carry but his knee may have been down (no reviews)
RB Delone Carter-Great quick area burst, good vision, turned corner well. No power to his run.
RB Evan Royster-Still looks a step slow, shows off good power though and is moving the pile 2-3 yards.
WR Perry Baker-Solid ST work as gunner, also made a solid catch out of bounds from Devlin which would of been a TD if delivered quicker
TE Julius Thomas-Good athleticism and sense to find soft spot in red zone coverage.
OT Jah Reid-Seals edge well, still struggles with speed rushers due to heavy feat.
OT Matthew O'Donnell-Massive kid at 6'10 and 35" arms but just too slow, maybe an OG. Gets in front on screen, not great on 2nd level, but so massive he didnt need to really block anybody.
OT Chris Hairston-Solid protection but beat on upfield rush
OT/OG Will Rackley-At one point was blocking two guys at once (though he was holding one). Very aggressive and does a great job getting to the 2nd level.
OC Ryan Bathlomolew-Good blocks on DT, head is up quick
DE Kenny Rowe-Incredible speed off the edge, upfield rusher only, closes with a pounding.
DE Justin Trattou-Hard worker, great awareness and brings constant pressure.
DT Olong Ogbu-Great bull rush power, and terrific hands that he used in a swim move for a sack.
DT Martin Parker-good sack cleanup, and then slips block on 2nd sack and FF. Needs to stay lower.
OLB Chris Carter-Lost contain on outside run v. Cooper.
OLB Dontay Moch-Has a tendency to reach out on rush and he struck Devlin in the helmet which should of been a penalty. Also got beat badly on the seam route Devlin threw.
K Wes Byrum-Powerful leg, but accuracy issues
