My God we haven't had even a decent Tight end in a decade!!!!

Yep! Nelson is obviously not the guy. GET A TE either in the draft or FA.

it kills me that there was a Buffalo kid sitting there in the 2nd round and we let him go to the Patriots. Gronkowski is headed to the Pro Bowl some day.

Agreed. He looks very good.

That guy is a punk. Did you see him and his meathead frat boy brothers at the draft?

I live down here in TN right now and the guy here, Luke Stocker, looks like a Riemersma type to me. 6'5", > 250 lbs, can really catch and big enough to block effectively. NOT a receiver in a tight end's body.

Could be around in the 3rd.

It doesn't matter who we bring in if the TE has to help the OL block. Fix the OL where we don't need them to block and we'll end up seeing the TE's catch more balls.

Better luck in FA than in the draft. Its a weak TE class after Rudolph though there is a small school kid who is a former basketball player than is intriuging.

FA is fine with me..

We have so many holes, would love to move back into the 1st to take a shot at Rudolph but we should look for an OT as well. With Whitner gone we need another DB as well. As much as we need TE help, can't say it's a draft priority given our other needs.

Free agent tight ends from a semi-random website:

Zach Miller
Kevin Boss
Marcedes Lewis
Owen Daniels

from http://www.footballsfuture.com/2011/fa/wr.html
page is on wide receivers, tight ends at bottom.

Some interesting folks there (if accurate)

Boss is very under rated. I like him out of that list.

We had a potential TE.

Then we turned him into a tackle.

Then we traded him.

Is it too late to turn Maybin into a TE?

We do need a tight end, badly...just not at #3 in the first round, please.

what's your point?

That we drafted a bunch and they didn't pan out?

That we didn't draft enough?

Don't care if we draft or sign one.

That list you showed me is all later round picks... I think Everett was the earliest at round 3.

sure as hell would be nice thought Everett was gonna be a good one but we all know what happened there

TE is a need position, so they won't pick one there...that is guaranteed!

If he can beat the migraines, he still might be a good player.

If you study Gailey's history he typically doesn't use the TE as a major part of the passing game so to make it a priority is a mistake.

i would take zack miller in a heartbeat.

I agree with most here FA does appear to be the direction to look in improving the TE spot. DB I know it's a weak spot, but what do you think about williams or like someone else mentioned Stocker. Either be around for the fourth.

Actually I'll rephrase, do you think if Williams is sitting there at either of the 4th spots he'd be BPA at that point.

Or, on the other hand, not using the TE as a major part of the passing game is the real mistake.

Portland State TE Julius Thomas had a very good Shrine Bowl week and game. Former Basketball player who has only one year of football experience. Very athletic, very smart, and good size.
