    Texans' leading receiver re-signs

Tight end Billy Miller, who won the starting tight end position with the Houston Texans in their inaugural season and emerged as a reliable target for rookie quarterback David Carr, re-signed with the team Thursday.

A three-year veteran, Miller signed a one-year contract for $610,600, the deal including a base salary of $605,000 and offseason workout bonus of $5,600, ESPN.com confirmed. The base salary was essentially the restricted free-agent qualifying offer that the Texans made to Miller in mid-February, to retain a right of first refusal if he signed an offer sheet with another club.

Texans tight end Billy Miller, who led the team with 51 catches last season, re-signed Thursday, inking a one-year contract worth $605,000.

Miller, who scored the Texans' first touchdown during the preseason and the regular season, came into his own last season after four years with Denver and Green Bay.

Considered undersized for a tight end at 6-3, 230, Miller began the 2002 season as a backup to Rod Rutledge but took over by the sixth game of the season.
